Or bust. No more big men available. Okonoboh is gonzo. Kasongo gonzo. Looney a pipe dream. Does anyone know of any mystery big we might add?

I thought Kasongo might be a guy UF could get in on late. Of course other bigs will come available or move up the rankings. It certainly is too bad Rimmer did not opt to stay with UF.

Goodluck reportedly has officially visited IU, UNLV and Ohio State, but not UF or Duke. Most say he picks IU. I guess we shall see, but if he has not visited UF, I doubt he picks UF.

    2 things:

Robinson is a SF, not a big
He is not coming to UF

We will not get a big in the Fall/Nov signing period.

Robinson is the closest thing to a big that there is left. I guess in the Spring something will pop up. Disappointing we can't get any top prospects with the PT coming available. I really think this has to do with our perception as a football school and our general apathy when it comes to bball.

Actually, this is the oddest situation with bigs I could imagine. UF is getting commitments from bigs. UF has commitments from two bigs right now. So the playing time is attracting top guys in Hayes and Mooney, but not 2014 guys.

Now let's think about this. I went to 247's composite list of players and searched PFs and Cs. Here is what I found:

    1. The first PF in the south is Black at 7 among PFs and he is an undersized 6'7" PF unless you count Victor who is maybe from LA, but in school in Nevada.

    2. The first PF in Fl is a London at 14 among PFs who is at Monteverde Academy who UF apparently had zero interest in.

    3. It is pretty similar for centers. None of them are from the south. Egi from Montverde reclassified as he picked Harvard.

So while I don't want to be an excuse maker, maybe it was a good year for bigs, but not a good year for bigs in UF's natural recruiting areas. UF did get in with one in New England big and just missed on him, providing Gottfried does not get fired this year.

One other possibility of course is that Hayes, who is an excellent student, can maybe reclassify. I hope he took the maximum number of core courses this fall.

Has nothing to do with being a football school. Maybe you should look at our returning players for next season if you want to see why PF and C are hard to come by in this class. There is a great chance that we have Hill, Walker, DFS all back with Harris at C. No one from this class would start over Walker or Hill in their 2nd year and Harris is a better C than all but 2 recruits and that was over a year ago at SC. On top of this if DFS or Walker can play SF which I think one will, then that position is taken. Basically we are recruiting for backups at this point.

Chiozza and Francis are commits, even though they could be playing behind returning players. However, you are on point about bigs looking at Harris, Chris Walker and Finney-Smith and not liking the competition for playing time next season. That will change in the spring if Walker or Finney-Smith head to the pros.

You've made that abundantly clear. Even to those of us who frequent these boards only weekly.

We're not even filing the football stadium anymore. Maybe we've become a gymnastics school?

For 2014-15, I agree. The big question is C. Walker's eligibility and return next year. If he is back, then you have Harris at the five, C. Walker at the four, Finney-Smith at the three, but also able to play some four, with D. Walker as the backup at three and four.

The problem is depth, but more importantly 2015-16. We can muddle through next year just fine with those bigs because Frazier, Graham, and Francis all have enough size to play the three for us provided they can defend slightly larger wings. If Hill returns all the more because he, Chiozza, and Carter can lock down the backcourt spots mostly. But it essentially puts us in the situation of needing a transfer next season or starting true freshmen. Kind of dicey at this stage. We'll see what happens between now and spring.
