I got the joke lol. He playing with our emotion....ghost.
I think we are going to all be very happy with our defensive line haul this year.
I agree. With Pickering, Hunter and a couple other beasts on the DL will be outstanding.
Personally, I'm still thinking Thibodeaux. He appeared really impressed when he came.
Why not shoot for the Stars, after all.
Just a hunch or do you have some inside info you can't disclose?
It's noting more than a hunch. If we get Hunter, Summerall, & Pickering it will be a homerun. If we miss on all of three of those, it will be a DL class full of 3-star players. Take a look at 247's top Florida DL's (and their DL list) and we're not in on many of the top players. It is what it is. Maybe if we have a dominant D this year and win 8 or 9 games in convincing fashion a few players will flip? Otherwise, we're wishing in one hand...
UF has never depended much on the state of Florida to produce defensive linemen. Half or more of the UF D-linemen in the NFL were from out of state; Jonathan Bullard, Carlos Dunlap, Dominique Easley, Sharrif Floyd and Justin Trattou. The coaches are already working D-linemen from Georgia to California.
Working and landing are two different things. We could get Parks (3-star out of Alabama) but I highly doubt w/ get Thibodaux or Pickering (I hope I'm wrong on these two, btw). Other than those two who are you specifically thinking we get?
Im keeping the other in my pocket
I think it's true under Meyer and then somewhat under Muschamp we could recruit national DL but often we seem to miss on Florida DL and have to go out of state. I wish that would change but seems like a malady since the Spurrier days with a few exceptions.
Hunter is a question mark. However UF has a lot of question marks in their favor. In the end I have Hunter in the class.
How many DL we need? I would think 3 that lean to the DT size. DE? No idea.
I would put a cap on it at 3 DL for now. I've heard we try to target 13 scholarship players on the D front line. We could have as many as 11 coming back next year for 2019. I'm predicting 10 so 3 would be the number. If we have more exits and injuries then the number 3 rises. K Davis is still unknown and tough to say if Zuniga and Polite are both gone.
Given that as of right now, counting K Davis, the Gator Roster has on it 5 DT types (1 Sr, 4 Sophs), 4-5 Bucks (1 SR, 2-3 Jr, 1 Fr), 2 WDE (Jrs) and 3 SDEs (1 Jr, 2 FR), and assuming that Lang will end up playing DE/Buck, it's pretty clear that at least 2 WDEs, 2 true DTs and possible 1 SDE will be needed in the DLine to maintain consistent depth by position.
Not much is needed at either DB or LB (3 at each), so, if quality kids will sign, I'll say that Grantham & Mullen will shoot for a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 on the DLine.
3 will be inadequate and will cause shortages down the road.
Part of our difference is in based on a 3-4 verses a 4-3. I'm looking at it from a 3-4. Until we see the product on the field and how these coaches adjust players and positions then the numbers will better line up.
I am concerned about shortages on the DL and at LB down the road, look at the juniors this year. I still think your numbers may be high. You have 5 DT + 5 Bucks + 5 DE and add another 6 maximum. That could be 21 schollys just at DL or 1/4 of the whole team. I see us at 13-14 at the 3 DL front and 13-14 at the 4 LB spots. As always the changes will be the players that leave early/transfer between now and signing day.
Agree 100%. But I do believe Pickering will be a 5 star by signing day. In the end he and Rambo will be gators.
