    This sucks.....

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Deonte Thompson was arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia on Friday night, according to the Gainesville, Fla., police department.

Thompson, a backup who has played 13 games in two seasons, is the second player from the Ravens' Super Bowl champion team to be arrested in a week. Running back Ray Rice was arrested for simple assault in an incident involving his fiancee on Feb. 15 in an Atlantic City casino.

According to police, Thompson was a passenger in a car with two other men when the vehicle was pulled over for driving without headlights at 11:45 p.m. Friday. Police searched the car and found a duffle bag with several smaller bags of marijuana, weighing a total of 29 grams.

The other two men, Alvon J. Summerall and Erskine J. McKinley, told police the marijuana was theirs. Thompson said the duffle bag was his, but the marijuana inside the bag was not.

Thompson, who went undrafted out of the University of Florida, was in jail on a $7,000 bond. He has 15 career catches for the Ravens for 147 yards and no touchdowns.

I hope you don't feel bad for DT. He is a responsible adult behaving irresponsibly, including the company he keeps.

I agree that this is his own fault and a result of very poor decision making. He is an adult as you say and thus is 100% responsible for his actions.

That said I also feel sadly this reflects on our university as well to some degree - just as any criminal behaviour does as committed by any U.F. alumnus. Then you add in he is a former Gator athlete currently employed as an NFL player getting front page exposure and it just sucks.

You never see this crap from Tim.

Funny how guys don't get arrested until they drive around at midnight with bags of weed with no lights on either.

I agree that was stupid, and my comment really wasn't specifically about this situation (should have specified that) but its just funny that guys seem to come back to Gville and get arrested. Are they doing something different? (besides the idiot with no lights)

It never ceases to amaze me. If you're going to do something criminal, for God's sake, don't draw unwarranted attention to yourself. Don't give the cops an excuse to pull you over (and then search your car, after they get an inevitable whiff of marijuana smoke when they come up to your window after pulling you over). How difficult is it to operate a car lawfully when you've got evidence of a crime inside it?? Sheesh . . .

Since it was over an ounce in multiple pouches, I'm surprised they didnt get charged with intent to distribute. What's even more concerning is that one of the guys apparently has quite the record and served 3 years in prison

    http://www.wuft.org/news/2014/02/22/nfl-former-uf-football-player-accused-of-possessing-marijuana/

In June 2007, Erskine J. McKinley, also known as “Dusty” and “Erk,” was sentenced to three years for crimes including two attempted murders, shooting, illegally owning a weapon or ammo and robbery, according to Florida Department of Corrections records.
He was released in October 2009, according to department records.
A year later, he was arrested in Houston after witnesses alleged he was part of a drive by from a minivan in Belle Glade, according to The Palm Beach Post.
In the October 2010 incident, James Sanford, 18, was shot to death in the 700 block of Southwest Avenue D. A 20-year-old man was hit in the leg, according to the Post.
Prosecutors did not pursue a series of charges against McKinley and the other man, according to Palm Beach County records. The charges included first-degree murder with a gun, two counts of attempted degree murder, grand theft and illegally owning a gun.
McKinley was back in prison in October 2011 for the crimes he committed in 2006. He was released July 1, according to Florida Department of Corrections records.
He was found guilty in March 2012 of battery on a law enforcement officer in a June 2011 incident, according to Palm Beach County records.
He pleaded guilty to carrying a concealed weapon in June 2010 and robbery and having a weapon or ammunition in June 2007, according to County records.

The reason this chit happens to them in Gatortown is this is where they come back and run with their home boys...just like the good old days.

You know....the ones they shouldn't be associating with.

    These kids need role models....badly.

Actually, it would appear that these "homeboys" are from Belle Glade. Tough, tough place. Doesn't excuse any of it, though.

He wouldn't be in any trouble if weed enjoyed the same legal status as alcohol. Call your lawmakers irresponsible for developing a legal system that incarcerates minorities for marijuana possession.

Only doctors are allowed to sell drugs for profit...

Oxy is addicting the nation, but in the most dangerous legal manner by people who profit from pain while causing a different pain of addiction.

I am outraged that GPD has nothing better to do than harass former Gator players. This was an egregious waste of precious time and resources that could have been used to harass current Gator players.

I'm outraged that GPD and other LEO's continue to give my beloved Mary jane a bad name......uh um,(oh yeah and our players too.) She's all natural(which is more than you can say for most these days) never puts you in a bad mood (rarity among ladies) and always smells so good. Only thing Mary Jane doesn't do is cook but she does get you in the mood to eat :)

Meanwhile, harmful chemicals loaded in tobacco which is linked with cancer, is fine and dandy. Same with that "legal" poison they call alcohol.
