Pshaw...the increased costs of flying will not be due to regulations affecting Healthcare nor regulations affecting the cost of jet fuel but rather simply because the evil, mean, greedy stockholders (read: pensioners/folks living in "del boca vista") want to earn enough to continue to eat since their Certificates of Deposit are earning a staunch .5% annually. How dare they!

Let's put it in airline terms!

"Delta Airlines Health Care Costs to Increase By Approx. 0.5 Boeing 767s"

$100 M is a lot of money unless you are the US government borrowing it from China

I know, I was largely joking around. It works out to about 10% of Delta's GAAP net income from last year (reported non-GAAP profits of $1.6 bn or GAAP net income of $1 bn), so while it isn't driving Delta broke it certainly isn't cheap.

Delta has more than 160 million passengers per year, so that's an increase of about 70 cents per fare. Of course Obamacare only accounts for a portion of that 100 million increase.

You liberals need to be ready for the costs to be passed on to everyone. That's how it works in business.

Gotta love watching a rationalization for a $100 million dollar increase in the cost of doing business.

Just putting it in perspective. If Obamacare accounts for half of that 100 million increase in costs to Delta, then it amounts to an increase of maybe 35 cents per air fare. I'm fine with that.

What irks businesses is that the majority of Obamacare is unnecessary and very difficult to plan for. Deadlines are missed weekly and the regulatory and compliance cost for businesses is astonishing. This entire legislation was so ill timed, ill conceived and way too comprehensive. It is crushing the employment picture. And there have been so many waivers and exceptions given, who actually has to comply?

I suggest all you circle jerkers(see definition below)----Really should read the article before opening your mouths, typing your insults, etc.

    1. The figure is what Delta CEO claims. It is not proven.
    2. In the article the OP posted....the CEO himself states that there are a number of things that go into that $100M increase, NOT JUST Obamacare.
    3. American CEO's over the years have developed a reputation(well earned) for exaggerating the effect legislation(or other issues in the news) will have on their businesses.

FWIW--I believe companies that pay directly for employee healthcare(in other words no insurance company middlemen---please note that the article itself refers to insurance companies as middlemen who increase the cost) should be exempt entirely from Obamacare. Especially if the company can get a substantial majority(66% or 75% of its employees) to verify that they are happy with the health care arrangement they have via their employer.

BTW---one of the main reasons Delta has that healthcare arrangement is because of union and management both signing off on it.

definition of message board circle jerkers

A Message board is a rag-tag collection of pretentious douchebags. Any type of social reject will be found on an message board. For instance,
    1. Nerdy Crybabies.---Cons incessantly whining
    2. Internet Tough-guys.---a lot of pseudo macho posturing tough talk
    3. Racists.
    4. Passive-Aggressive Assholes.
    5. Aggressive Assholes.
    6. Tools/Try-Hards.
    7. Perverts.
    8. Misogynists.
    9. Dorks.
    10. Basically anyone who the world is a better place without.(ultra cons and ultra libs included)
Any kind of normal person will eventually be driven away by the circle-jerk of a cluster^%#$#(edited due to language)of nerds stroking each others egos.

It appears the threads circle jerkers preceding this post include the types highlighted in bold above

yet again con posters fail to even read the article they post or comment upon. Evidently you are either unable or unwilling to read what your are commenting upon.

near the end of the article is the following which all the bashers in this thread have ignored

in other words, Delta's claims are vague statements meant to scare and may or may not be accurate picture of what effect Obamacare may have. They(Delta execs) blurred everything by lumping Obamacare, health cost inflation, etc into a $100M label that cons automatically spin to labeling as being only due to Obamacare. totally ignoring the other factors..

nice try cons----to try to BS people by adding spin to a vague comment by a Delta exec with ulterior motives

old, do you understand the term "self funded". And do you realize the ramifications if Delta executives (as a publically traded corporation) lie or mislead shareholders about their costs or revenues?

Essentially Delta must put these funds aside into a "lock box" (you know like social security and medicare are supposed to be). If they are misleading then their financial statements will reflect this and their CEO can got to prison for certifying the quarterly financials. Don't think he, CFO, SVP of HR or Gen Counsel would take that chance.

And OBTW, most companies that self fund, also do take out insurance for catastrophic claims so they are not entirely self funded.

so is it self funded or not?

it appears the primary source of healthcare for the employees does not go thru health insurance companies...effectively avoiding the price of the health insurance company middleman(ironic that I was blasted in other threads for referring to health insurance companies as middlemen that simply jacks up cost of health care---yet the delta eec referred to health insurance companies in same manner. )

as far as execs who exaggerate or mislead in their statements--execs often mislead(within legal limits) by bundling together factors when they make statements and making it possible for cons(or others) to spin the statement by highlighting one factor and ignoring the other factors(see previous posts in this thread as many con posters did just that).

It is a matter of risk vs benefit...if misleading(within legal limits) can shift public opinion and save a company money---are you saying execs won't mislead?

    -----

in regard to your saying that the company takes out insurance just in case it can't meet its obligations.....is that health insurance or other type of insurance? Did the company execs do that out of goodwill? or because it was required by law or as a result of agreement between the company and the union?

    -----

the business world is rampant with examples of execs misleading stockholders(but not likely leading the large stockholders who they privately inform).

In any case, his statement was made publicly. and therefore likely intended to bias/shift public opinion. on a risk vs benefit basis it is common for businesses to spin public statements to stir public sentiment.

If Delta and/or its exec were to be totally transparent and honest he would have broken down that $100M into how much is Obamacare, how much is health care inflation, etc, etc. Instead he(the Delta exec) blurred everything by lumping it together

at the very end of the article you posted there was a disclaimer that it wasn't sure how much of the $100M is related to Obamacare, how much to health care inflation, and other factors. Yet you chose to ignore that and other con posters came along to try and put the entire $100M on Obamacare.

Save your con jobs for people who will fall for your BS
