I was pretty sure Rece Davis was going to top heavy himself and fall over when he "closed out" on Bobby Knight.

    Anyone else?

That segment was kinda silly. Is Bobby Knight's wisdom really a "shot fake is good?" I was hoping for something different, a new pearl of wisdom and I walked away with "no duh...."

He reminded me of a high school third-stringer trying hard to impress the coach with the big effort getting into defensive position.

I agree. There's just something off about him as a commentator. He's forgotten more basketball than probably everyone on this board combined, but it just doesnt feel right like he doesn't want to be there or something.

I agree. And it is not just because it clearly pained him to say anything good about us. I got the feeling that he is jealous he isn't going bd anymore with a very good program.

Having said that, he occasionally has some good insight which he restates over and over until you feel like you've gotten a scissor kick to the back of your head.:)

Don't forget that a dunk is just a dunk. He would rather see replays of a good pass.

I guess he wants us to know what it would be like to have him coaching us (the viewers, that is).

I couldn't imagine being one his players who doesn't utilize the shot fake....

I was hoping that he would talk about Patric's blocking out. Something that Pat does very well, but doesn't show up on his stat line.

I don't dislike Knight as a commentator for any perceived bias. I just think he brings nothing to the table as a color guy. Head fake? He talked about the head fake all night. What is this? 8th grade hoops?

He was also consistently wrong and seemingly unaware of real-time game scenarios. He'd make comments about getting the ball into DFS when UF was on D, he'd praise a possession for taking 30 seconds off the clock, when it only took of 15, he'd discuss UA's comeback chances and mis-state the remaining time by 3:00 (6 instead of 3), I could go on and on.

I have no problem with him as a person, and I'm not picking on him because he's old, I'm just saying he's an awful color guy and should probably just retire. If his name wasn't Bobby Knight, he wouldn't sniff a microphone.

I also noticed these mistakes, but the one about UA's comeback chances I actually went back to listen to because I was so disappointed/confused/RAAWWR that a color guy could get the time remaining wrong...what he actually said was something like "Remember back when there were 6 minutes left, I said UA had to do this this and this to have a chance...and they didn't, so they're going to lose."

You mean like that one in the first half right before a commercial break where relliford took 4 steps and got a lucky pass off that led to an easy dunk they showed a replay of about 10 times?

Reminded me of a travel team coach my son had that cared more about execution and team work than actually winning the game.... at least until he was coaching his own son's team. Then, it was all about little Johnny and the W.
