Gotta appreciate this Gator D. These guys are so good, they're fun. Not sure that, as a group, we're taking the time to really enjoy how truly dominant these guys are. Yes, they've made a few mistakes but they're also really, really good. I hope they're able to get healthy because when they are, they're scary good. Enjoy 'em folks.

It was weird that several times yesterday I was most excited that our D was gonna be on the field than our O because it felt like they gave us better chance of scoring points.

They are good but after the 1st stringers, we are average. This is where I have an issue with "just get the W" mentality. When Steve blew out teams by halftime, he was able to get 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th stringers into the game. With Muschamp we can't even get 2nd stringers into the game because the game is too close. It becomes an exercise in when to sub 2nd stringers - one here, one there for a play or 2 but not for an entire series. Because the game is always close, the offense and defense can't afford to sub out the 1st string. Once we lost Purifoy and Poole, the defense gave up huge chunks of yards and a TD.

This could be the best D to ever play at UF. 2 maybe 3 first rounders on the DL, 3 at corner. Great LBs. If Elam had satyed 1 more yr, it wouldn't even be debateable.

It was great to see Fowler destroy one of the best OL's in the country yesterday.

We were missing Poole, Purifoy, and Roberson.

    Defense is outstanding!!!

What I love the best is watching our secondary. They are not great because we are stacked with great players, they are great because everyone is exactly where they are supposed to be on nearly every play.

We had a couple busted coverages on UT's touchdown drive, but every other time we were spot on. Just nowhere to go with the ball. We play as sound in the secondary as I have ever seen.

They said in a span of 60 plays (from some of the Miami game and the first half of Tenn) they only gave up 100 yards.

60 plays, 100 yards. That is amazing.

VH3 deserves his own thread once again, but I have to ask it here. Does anybody disagree that he is already a better cover corner than Purifoy? I think he might be better than Roberson too, but need to see a little more before I am 100% on that opinion.

D has been stellar. after the first 2 drives by Miami, we shut them down. - just like last year: great adjustments! & we had the vols throttled for most of the game. we gave up yards and points after several injuries to the secondary...and an ejection.

    love the 'D'.
when healthy, we may have the best D in the country, or close to it, imo.

Line, linebackers, secondary - always attacking. I love watching 'em. Muschamp sounded crazy calling them out after the Miami game but he knew what they are capable of and wants them to disrupt and win games. They can and now are. Enjoy 'em guys, it's not everyday that teams gets such a dominant unit and we have one right now.

All 1st string too. I personally like to have the 2nd and 3rd string just as good so I have depth. Once we lost both of them, there was a huge dropoff in the secondary. Maybe, it was due to losing Poole so quickly after losing Purifoy, but that might be a weakness. Since we don't blow teams out, we can't afford to sub out the 1st defense with the 2nd string. Ohio St had emptied their bench by halftime. Yeah it was FAMU, but we have only scored 40 or more points 4 times under Muschamp and 3 of those were in his 1st season.

So, if Purifoy is so good, why is he returning KOs? You would figure you want a guy who you can afford to lose returning kicks.

Lots of coaches (including Meyer) like to put their best athletes on special teams. It's risky but a lot of times if you win ST, you win the game or at least make it easier to win.

I think you would have to be blind to disagree. But some do. Someone wasn't convinced he was the best corner from Fl in last yrs recruiting class. But don't expect that poster to say he was wrong, or that he was wrong that our season would end if Murphy took a snap under center. Makes you wonder if maybe there's another TE who doesn't practice out of his mind that would excel beyong the play we're getting from that position now on Saturdays.

Really? You like having your 2nd and 3rd string just as good as your 1st teamers do you? Great idea. I'll email Muschamp and suggest it to him.

I'll also suggest we play a Big 10 schedule and add FAMU non-conference, you knows, so's we can empty the bench during the 1st half.

So you want 9 1st round secondary players on our roster? What's the weather like in your world?

I personally like to have Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Drew Breeze as my 3 deep at QB. So there is no drop off if 1 goes down.

This is a defense thread there, rburnett. How 'bout we go with Lawrence Taylor, Dick Butkus and Mike Singletary? Although I'll bet Butkus woulda transferred.

Roberson too? Was that a one game suspension?
