Dammit. Just read the thread and still have no idea what it’s about.
247 is now reporting Gates is no longer on the staff.
Look at this thread from around page 5 on:
New Assistant Coach? (edited to include new coaching hire)
It’s certainly seems to be moving toward “official”.
Nobody involved in this story is going to walk away looking as ethical or competent in his job as he did two weeks ago.
A) It probably happens far more than we realize--and we don't realize it in part because it seldom gets the attention we think. That's why there is so little about this outside of those connected with us, Nebraska, or Gates.
B) In any event, coaches, ADs, and SIDs still don't comment on these thing publicly unless there is a necessary reason (again, legal or compliance issues).
Nobody outside of two fanbases will even know about this.
This is probably a really good point.
It also seems Gates has changed his Twitter title from ...Florida Gators associate head men’s basketball coach, -to- “men’s basketball coach”.
Folks, if you would, let's leave Cincy out of the discussion. He is not participating anymore so it is only fair to him.
You don't think that this story once announced as official will be picked up by all major sports outlets?
Fwiw- I do hope he is able to return soon. He is one of my favorite posters. As I wrote in one of my posts relating to the topic, there is nothing wrong with exercising some prudence when these type things are reported, discussed or circulated.
Heck, I was pretty skeptical when @g8orbill first referenced this story on the insider board. In fact, I probably owe him an apology for teasing him a bit about it. Sorry, Bill!
Anyway, I hope no hard feelings with @cincinnatigator.
Read that too.
Thus is what I got.
We hired a guy.
He is now going somewhere else.
Did this help?
You’re a now entirely up to speed!
I want to thank AKA for bringing us information that was accurate and, in hindsight, not at all inflammatory (he didn't delve into any wild allegations that might be promulgated for the separation). Honestly, as an avid hoops fan, I dig the attention to the program.
Thanks... that’s nice of ya!
As I said in the thread here, I hardly broke the story... and admittedly was a skeptic and cynic when it was first revealed.
I only posted what I heard after becoming comfortable with the apparent inevitability of it all.
I’ve heard some wild rumors as to “why” but I have no such comfort or inclination to post any of em.
In the end, this sucks for everyone. Florida had a great hire and Gates a great gig.
I’m bummed it didn’t work out.
Hopefully my concern over any ripple effect isnt realized.
@rserina talked me off the ledge a bit.
Or likely care.
It is perfectly obvious that something big is behind this. I have zero belief that White was just "uncomfortable" - unless Gates called him a "bleeping bleep hole" to his face. And that is hard to imagine from a coach who was highly regarded coming in 1 month ago. Nor do I find Mike White to be at all "finicky" or "reactionary".
This does stink for everyone involved, but perhaps this is better than what might have happened in 2 years if it wasn't addressed. Hopefully this does not impact White's ability to hire another great assistant. I really would like to know what happened here and assume it will come out eventually.
It's not good to have your hire of your senior assistant blow up after less than a month, but it is what it is.
