One of the saddest stories I've heard from that day, other than the obvious, was that the Secret Service agents were bringing home their President in a coffin (the greatest fear and failure of every Secret Service agent) and, as they brought him up the stairs to Air Force One, Jackie Kennedy was standing at the bottom of the stairs waiting to get on the plane.

As they tried to bring the coffin in, because of the handles, the coffin would not fit through the doorway of the plane.

Jackie Kennedy, with her husband's brains and skull still on her dress, had to stand on the stairway while the Secret Service cut the handles off the coffin.

Just one of the many horrible scenes from that day.

See, this is what is ridiculous to me...

What makes your complaints about republicans any better than republican complaints against democrats?

    nothing really

the only difference is that in their heart of hearts democrats really believe that they are morally and intellectual superior. That criticizing a democrat is impossible because democrats are perfect in every way.

that's simply bizarre. we're not supposed to point out that similarities of the criticisms? why, because you don't like it?

Ummm no, the criticisms for the most part are very similar. But that's not what was being done and I'm pretty sure that you get that.

That was a ridiculing the criticisms. The attempt to invalidate them.

So? Am I supposed to respond to every criticism you have of Obama with "Yeah, well I suppose Republicans are perfect?" like you did.
    No.
It's very interesting how similar the right's criticisms of JFK were in 1963 to its criticisms of Obama in 2013. I know you'd rather that not be true. But it is. Sorry.

again, to pretend that this doesn't apply to both sides or to hold one side up as an extreme example is ridiculous.

Deep perception in revealing right wing criticisms of democrats as accusations extreme left-wing.

    I applaud your insight!

JFK was assassinated though by a left winger. Sort of makes the "criticism" pale by comparison, huh?

I'm surprised it took this long for this type of article to make it here. The NYT ran an article earlier this week blaming the right wing atmosphere of Dallas for the assassination.

no, it doesn't actually change the atmosphere in Dallas in 1963.

So river, just make it clear...was the atmosphere responsible for JFKs death, or was it the left winger's bullet?

Yes, it did a bang-up job with the Reagan assassination attempt about 20 years later. Instead of parking his limo at the hotel exit, the SS parked it 30 feet away, so he had to walk that far in the open, within 15 feet of a crowd (including John Hinckley, waiting to fire another magic bullet) that the SS didn't screen.

River, wanna know two positives from when the last baby boomer dies? No more slobbering over JFK, and we can finally say there was nothing special about the Beatles.

I think the concerns about JFK's Roman Catholicism in 1963 were much stronger than any feelings against Obama's race in 2013.
