The problem was the angle. The sideline official is watching the ball there, and since it was on the baseline he was the only one with an angle for both on ball foul and Charge/Block. So he is watching the ball to see if a foul happens when going up while also watching the defender trying to draw a charge with his peripherals. Baseline charge is horrible to try and call because you have no help. The other refs have no angle to make the call and you're watching a 10 foot area from 2 feet away. He most likely couldn't see the movement if it was slight. It's why I hated ever being on a baseline because you have no help on any driving actions usually.

At first I thought it was a bad call, then I watched it on replay and I think the ref got it right. A coach has got to keep his composure if he expects his players to whether he thinks it was a BS call or not. I'll bet that coach will apologize to his players and the media.

He clearly said that was a bull $hit call repeatedly as you could read his lips.

Understood….but I thought that's part of the reason they changed the interpretation of the rule this year. If it's really that impossible to call…and games are decided by these calls, then they should have the option to look at the replay like they can for clock issues.

I'm shocked that isn't reviewable that late in the game. It absolutely should be I agree. A call should never determine a game. I'm just pointing out don't kill the ref lol.

The call didn't determine the game, Boeheim determined the game.

No way…watching replays on the Internet now. The defender was clearly shuffling his feet. That is not a charge.

Yup - that call didn't end the game. The 2 T's however did.

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim was screaming, too, running out into court, screaming profanities and drew a technical. Boeheim kept going and received his second technical, bringing on an automatic ejection.

    I got it Apex.

Duke player's feet are still right at the split second before the Cuse player leaves the court. That's all that counts.

Definitely not a charge. The defender moved his feet after the player had already started his upward motion. That was a BS home call especially considering they called it the other way earlier as a block against Syracuse; that's why he went ballistic.

Also, the rule is not when the offensive player leaves his feet, it's when he starts his shooting motion, which he clearly did before the defender was fully set. Also, he made an attempt to go around anyway, and then barely touched the guy who flopped to the floor in true duke fashion. Really, it should have just been a no call.

    Video is here.

Edit: and on that call, unless it's a blatant run over, it should always go to the offensive player or be a no call. Playing defense by running to a spot and standing in the way is not basketball. Basketball is made to be played vertically not on the floor. Go up and contest the shot and if you get all ball while jumping straight up, you shouldn't be called for a foul.

Call didn't really matter and the game was more or less meaningless. Cuse will still have a no 1 seed and the undefeated season had already gone bye bye. Boeheim was showing his players he had their backs and making sure that they would pay attention going into the Tourney. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Your feet would move too if you had someone launch into you. It's physics.

I hope we never see our coach behave like that in a 2 point game with 10 seconds left to play.

This is one of those things that can be argued for fifty pages. Could have went one way just as easy as the other. One thing is for certain and that is if they had any chance at all to win Boeheim blew it.

Corp, I respectfully disagree on the shooting motion, he was still carrying the ball to where he intended to be when he shot it. He even brought his arm down and then back up again to adjust before making the actual shooting motion.

    Go GATORS!

Even if we disagree on that, the defender leaned in. He was leaning backwards when he started up and finally got his body vertical once he was in the air. That means he wasn't set when the shooter started.

You can't take anything away from the Gators this year, tough as nails. But I don't get the feeling we've been playing teams as talented as those two.
