So it seems this morning there is bated breath over the possibility that Cruz or Lee could block the Senate vote and force hearing and such. I say go for it -- it would mean either we hit the debt limit and make Obama and Lee test their legally baseless claim that they don't have to pay the debt first, or it forces Reid to act on one of the eleven or so bills Boehner has sent him in order to still get something to Obama to sign -- and force him to sign or veto it. Go for it, guys.

So what happens when the Y2K panic becomes exactly that?

He means the whole "default isn't really default" epiphany, assuming the administration obeys the Constitution and continues debt service above other expenses. Of course, things would be enough of a hot mess once debt service and SS are paid as they would have to be, so not really a total Y2K situation, but also not the immediate meltdown people fear.

It wouldn't do either of those things, it would just test whether Reid is actually willing to use the nuclear option and amend the Senate rules on a straight majority vote. Clearly he can, although I don't know that it actually benefits anyone to force him to do so.

Or the House could just pass the Senate plan first, and the ability to delay/obstruct a vote is more or less gone.

Or both houses could pass a budget for the first time since 2009 and solve everything.

That's essentially what the Senate "deal" is predicated on. That's not going to happen until the threat of default is lifted though.

I'm not sure the administration is really going to obey the constitution when they haven't by unilaterally making changes in the ACA legislation.

Unless you think default would be a positive outcome, that's exactly what's going to happen.

Only way we default is if Obama chooses default.

Catching Reid into such brazen hypocrisy after so much indignant bleating on that point -- possibly also worth doing, I don't know.

Or if the GOP chooses default. Looks like the leadership of both parties wants to avoid that, thankfully.

Do you even know what you are talking about by using the word "default"?

I know what I mean. If you're arguing that paying interest only in the short term while other authorized spending goes unpaid, the markets go crazy and the treasury can't hold bond auctions isnt technically a "default" then I guess you can hang your hat on that.

Since GOP can't even rally enough votes within its own ranks(GOP) to create a budget bill that would then go before the senate----all the stuff of Cruz, etc is pretty much moot(aka fantasy land)

The GOP has passed several budget bills since 2009 and sent them to the senate. Why can't the senate ever pass anything that actually helps this country?
