Don't you all realize that everything bad/shady/incorrect that happened before Obama is now his fault entirely?

In January 2010 the yearly revision was negative 902,000 jobs. Under Bush, in January 2007, the yearly revision was positive 754,000 jobs. Some years it adds jobs, some years it subtracts them. But in the mind of a regressive, it's always that Obama is up to something.

Maybe Obama being a pathological liar has something to do with it...

That would be someone who lies about the origins of words and how language develops?

Maybe Harvard is different, but my legal education included very, very little study of philology.

(Here's a hint: you used the wrong word. "Philological" means having to do with the study of the origins of language.)

Will the government ever calculate the unemployment rate by taking into account the number of people who just quit looking?? Assume that 10 people want a job but can't find one, and 5 people quit looking because they can't find one.

Are there only 10 people counted as unemployed [yes]. This is so ridiculous that only the government could come up with it, and assume the American people are too stupid to understand it.

They do. But for some policy purposes, it might be important to exclude from the calculations those who are "not employed and are not looking" since their inclusion would actually skew the numbers in some instances. Not so black & white.

Now this goes more or less to the point I want to make.

We've pretty prominently seen the accusations that the White House is "manipulating" the unemployment numbers to make themselves look better.

So what qualifies as "manipulating the unemployment numbers to make themselves look better"?

Apparently the simple act of not manipulating the way the unemployment data is released to make themselves look worse.

No. Every problem was ascribed to Bush for years, until the statute of limitations ran out. Politicians point fingers and accomplish nothing worthwhile.

Is it a surprise that the American public has lost faith in the federal government?

As I see it, the real "losers" [as the deficit continues to spiral out of control] are our children and their children. Do we not care that we are decimating their financial futures?

    Shame on us.

yep. As far as I can tell, unemployment is being figured the way it's always been. but now conservatives think that makes Obama look good so, by golly, it's just not right. It's manipulation and we need to change it!!!
    Or something like that.
