    I don't think he's supported Obama since like 2009.

I think he's doing ok, financially. He went from teaching at Harvard to Princeton.

Two things that are always funny to me...

    1. When people are surprised by the honest leftists hating Democrat corporatists

    2. When most of those people fail to realize they vote for the same thing whether their candidate is Republican or Democrat

Wait, the very people who insist that Obama is a socialist that injects race into everything are citing an actual socialist who believes that entrenched white supremacism expresses itself in all facets of American culture and who has described Obama as a "black puppet" for white corporate America to support their arguments?

If anything the fact that actual radical leftists are quite disappointed with his administration undermines you all's argument that he is a divisive socialist, you realize that, right?

I would argue that, no matter how progressive you are (neo-conservative for you liberal types), there are people who are bitterly disappointed that you aren't more progressive (neocon) and teach the other side some major lessons. It shows how far we really have de-evolved as a country.

And you don't think that the same is true in the other direction? That there are always going to people who are bitterly disappointed that you aren't less progressive (maybe neoliberal?)?

because everything is always a clear cut issue....

besides, most around here have been recognizing Obama as a statist for a long time now

Sure, but I was commenting on the conservatives' "wisdom" of calling Obama a socialist and an avowed socialist is disappointed in him. Obama is, at best, an academician who can't recognize the real world versus the theories that are espoused by the great thinkers out there or at worse he is a slave to his side as W was to his.

Personally, I pick the latter but that he is enamored with being the former.

& there is the problem. The ole zero summers. Ironic, when those of this mindset are so good at spreading misery quite broadly.

Sure. I also think that once we admit that the other side has bias, we have to admit that we likely have bias too. So when the left says that Obama gets an A (or is a corporatist) and the right says that he gets an F (or is a socialist), he probably deserves something in between.

Very true. I don't demonize Obama. I do, however, ridicule those people who idolized him by giving him a Nobel Peace prize for...winning an election and then turned around and either voted him back into office or was too preoccupied to show up at the voting booth. And don't get me started on the petulant who didn't show up because Romney wasn't conservative enough.

I have said many times that the biggest problem facing our country is that money has corrupted the political process to a level that, maybe not unheard of in the past but with an effect that reaches WAY beyond what our founding fathers gave us in government powers. And nothing is happening to turn the tide.

what this shows is just how radically left Cornell West is and what bothers me is that he is not treated with the same ridicule that the members of what is deemed "radical right." (tea party, constitutionalists, libertarians)

to the contrary, while tea partiers are constantly being ridiculed and ostracized, radical leftists like Cornell West are legitimized being given endless platforms and spotlights. Never being challenged or questioned on their viewpoints and heaven forbid NEVER EVER being completely dismissed with corresponding disrespect and ridicule that those on the opposite side of the spectrum have to deal with.

What this lack of equal time does is essentially shift the dialouge dramatically to the left creating left of center politics seem "centrist" or even "mainstream." While of course continuing a program of gradually shifting policy further to the left.

The fact that those like West do not like the concept of "gradualism" does not make Obama any less of a leftist. Obama is first and foremost a politician.
