JDR and Verti...one of you may be the last one left to turn out the lights on the defense of the regime. Your #s are dwindling with 59% of American now DISAPPROVING of our President. Who will draw the short straw and be assigned the task?

I'm in "defense of the regime"? That's one of the most insulting posts I've ever read here.

You'd be wrong in that reference as well.

I amended the post and took you off the "bucket brigade", water carrying list for the regime. I assumed since you were pointing out Dr Rice's Iraq intel, that you were supporting John F Kerry and Hillary's superior work on regime foreign policy. Perhaps you are equally critical to all who deserve. Certainly our Iraq intel was "old" at best. Or by the time we moved, the WMD had also been moved to Syria?

In fairness, Coco is the most independent of the so-called "independents" we have in here. He thoroughly hates everyone, regardless of their political leanings.

They are two very different concepts--as you appear to be aware of. Don't get me wrong: Obama wasn't wrong for taking this action. Suspending their membership from the G8 should have occurred immediately after the Russians invaded the Crimea...not after Russia successfully annexed a territory that legally didn't belong to them.

Does the UK have any right to invade a few counties in Ireland?
Does Germany have the right to overthrow Russian rule in Kalingrad?
Does the US have any right to overthrow the civilian leadership in the Phillipines?

If no, then what Russia did from the outset was wrong--and responses should have been taken a lot earlier.

And you should be aware situations change. My praise for Obama's actions prior to Russia's invasion compared to my criticism of Obama's actions after Russia's invasion are two completely different things.

It's as patently ridiculous as going back in a game thread from one month ago and saying someone is being "inconsistent" for praising Frazier for nailing 11 treys against South Carolina...and only scoring 9 points against Kentucky 4 days later. Things change: what's appropriate one day may not be appropriate the next.

Obama never drew a "red line" like he did in Syria...but he clearly made it clear that Russia was not to interfere--and the did. With little in the way of consequences.

That's a two-edged sword, as it hurts them as much as it would anyone else. And, for the most part, Europe seems to be on-board, with really only Germany seriously objecting from what I can tell by reading several European publications.

someone from our 'side' please remind the good rev that we did, in fact, overthrow a foreign government in a sovereign nation, fairly recently.

So are you talking--or not? You appear to be confused on the subject.

You've had a far more patient approach to this crisis than I have--and this post articulates the patient approach quite well.

We'll see if Obama comes out ahead on this in the end--but right now, it would not appear so. I think action could have been taken earlier and a big reason we're seeing Putin act so aggressively here is largely because we were content to ignore Russian aspirations develop over the last 10 years and didn't respond to increasing provocations over the last 4 years.

Meh...I won't critique the attempt, as I've said in other threads. In 2008-9, I supported Obama's reset approach to Russia and honestly hoped he could pull it off. But, in hindsight, it wasn't meant to be. The historical opportunity for that type of alliance was in the mid to late 90s and the West missed it.

It's never worked in the past. I think JFK tried this once before with regards to the space program/s and got....... for it.
