I think you are confusing track and football with girls' gymnastics.

It's not only the 40 times...but also height & weight.

At the NFL combine when they measure height the player stands "duck feet" (w/ the heels together and toes pointed out).

I met the FSU punter one year at the Ponte Vedra Club while I was reading an Athlon's. After he walked away I looked him up and he was listed at 6'4. I'm 5'11 and this dude was no taller than 2" than I am. I just laughed....

I never understood why people act like the combine is the end all be all for measuring speed. Its just one event. Do Sprinters keep their same time each meet?

Also, how does the weight gain most players have affect their speed?

Good question. Joe Cohen came to UF as a RB....and left as a DT. I imagine he was faster when he was in HS. Same thing will happen to Henry at Alabama (he came in as a RB, but will likely leave as a DE or DT)....

I was FAST in high school. 4.55-4.7 most days. That made me one of the faster guys on the team. Now, 18 years later, 10 pounds heavier I am SLOWWWWWW. I sometimes play flag football with some of my middle school students. Even some of them can out run me. Sosad...bad knees....stiff joints...OLD....
