Florida: Sources tell us that New Mexico special teams coordinator / outside linebackers coach Coleman Hutzler will join the Florida staff. We've been hearing for a few days that Jeff Choate was trying to get back on with Chris Petersen, haven't confirmed that; but sounds like that's what has happened. Will update...

Hutzler was on UF's staff in 2010-11 as a Defensive/Special Teams Assistant. He coched under
Jim Harbaugh at San Diego and Stanford before coming to UF and later moving on to New Mexico

    Thank God.

Someone that might actually know what they're doing on Special teams. Does Hutzler have a good pedigree on coaching punters and kickers? He sounds awfully young to have a lot of experience there.

Chaz Henry had nothing but good things to say about Hutzler. Hutzler gets part of the credit for turning our punter into a serviceable replacement for Caleb Sturgis while he was injured.

We've had good special teams the kicking seemed to fall off dramatically this year as well as the FG/punt blocking.

I'm willing to give this dude a chance. He's young, will hopefully be energetic which is exactly what you want in a ST coach. I hope he's able to bring some good mojo for our kickers. We need a place kicker to emerge and it would be great to see Christy return to his old form. Some blocked kicks for the good guys would be nice to see as well.

Hutzler worked at Stanford as a recruiting assistant (2007) and defensive/special teams assistant (2008-09) while current Gators defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin served as special teams coordinator at the school. He joined Durkin at Florida in 2010 under then-head coach Urban Meyer as a defensive/special teams assistant, remaining with the program in 2011. He was hired by New Mexico in 2012 at his current position.

In his first season with the Lobos, the team jumped from 112th nationally in net punting to 25th. New Mexico also leapt from 106th in the country punt return yardage defense to 19th and 70th in kickoff returns to 24th nationally.

    CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:

    • Helped New Mexico improve from 112th among 120 Football Bowl Subdivision schools in net punting in 2011 to 25th in 2012.
    • Led UNM to a 19th place amond the FBS schools in punt return yardage defense in 2012, up from106th in 2011.
    • The Lobos also improved from70th in kickoff returns in 2011 to 24th in 2012 under Hutzler's tutelage.
    • Protégé under coaches Urban Meyer, Will Muschamp, Steve Addazio and Jim Harbaugh.

After watching that video, Coach looks like he could actually play a little LB right now.
    Sounds like a solid hire.

The most important thong about this hire, IMO, is that the coaches obviously wanted him. I doubt we knew Choate was leaving for very long before we contacted and locked up Hutzler. I also think we can all agree that we trust Durkin's expertise in SP and he trusts this guy. Only concern (and admittedly it would be stupid to base a hire off this) is that Durkin will be a HC in a year or two and we don't want too many guys loyal to him that will follow him.
