Can someone tell me how to close a pdf file in Windows 8.1? (I assume Windows 8 has the same problem.) The pdf has a black background. If you right-hand click, some options appear, but there is no option anywhere for closing the file. All that I've found to do is run your finger down from the top of the touch screen, which I believe is supposed to close any file (the file goes to the bottom of the screen, and closes when it flips over). But this will work with a multipage pdf only after 5 or 6 tries, which after so many pdfs should eventually wear a trough or leave a permanent grease stain down the middle of the touch screen.

    Any info appreciated.

From the lack of response, I think I've uncovered a definite flaw in the latest version of Windows that has been forced upon us. There is no (expletive) way to close a pdf file.

    Is this a history-making thread?

    Thanks, that worked!

I guess those F keys in a row at the top of the keyboard will do lots of handy things. I wish I knew what they were. Equipment like this used to come with instructions.

PDF files (and other files like videos et al) will be at the top left. Move your mouse to that corner and a little sidebar will popup with whatever files are open. Right-click on whichever one you want to close and click Close. You can also switch between applications this way.
