OK your sarcasm meter Is clearly broken.
I also took a shot at Winston. Thats not even an NCAA issue.

No no, what are you talking about. I never once said UF had ANYTHING to do with this. In other posts I've specifically stated the opposite. ALL I was saying was that its not clearly stated that the only things coming from agents were the cash.

My sarcasm meter works just fine. Being sarcastic doesn't change the facts, though.

Not to be pedantic, but you've confused criminal charges and amateur eligibility charges several times in the thread. I wish people would compare apples to apples.

Confusing, still, because of the follow-up

People definitely conflate these two things on a regular basis as part of their complaints against the NCAA.

Cam is widely believed to have been offered and possibly accepted money...Thats where the NCAA part comes in. But even that was really sarcasm on my part. The laptop part is not an NCAA issue. The Winston part was purely sarcasm...jab at rival....on my part.

OK, but I mean ... there has to be proof. They have it here, apparently they didn't in Cam's case.

I'm not picking on you (since apparently you missed your </sarcasm> tag) but people seem to have a real problem with this concept.

Right. In Cam's recruitment case, nobody confessed to the truth. All remained hidden, despite the inquiry.

NCAA could not go forward, not because they could not establish a founded suspicion that something happened, but because they could not prove it.

    As I recall.

Right, which is sort of where the NCAA is hamstrung.

Now, if you tell them "yeah, I took some cell phones" or whatever, they typically seem to go a little easier on you than if they find out later and you lose eligibility / forfeit games, etc. But if there's no smoking gun you're certainly better off telling them to stick it, at least from a program preservation point.

I didn't say that's all he got. I was saying all he needed to repay was the $270 to play because he's just about served the suspension. In the letter written by the lady who was looking after him, she mentions all those other things; so I concluded that they came from those benefactors.

As for UF's involvement, I guess I just misunderstood this part of your post...

I thought you were suggesting UF had provided things, and it was funny because they never had to. I see now that you mean it is ridiculous for anyone to assert that UF gave him anything; and that it was obviously outside influences.

Actually, they concluded that Cam's father probably got paid, and there was ample evidence for the NCAA's purposes (remember they're not a court of law, and their burden of proof is much lower); but they also said the NCAA rule as written was ambiguous, and because it wasn't clear enough that family members profiting was also a violation worthy of rendering a player ineligible, they let him get away with it.

They said as long as Cam didn't know his dad was getting the money, he couldn't be penalized. But of course, there were recordings of Cam mentioning the money arrangement his father had with MSU, but not necessarily AU. His father later admitted trying to get paid, but asserted that Cam never knew; of course he never said that until he learned Cam could get away with it if he wasn't aware.

After it was over, they said they were going to amend the rule to close the loophole. In all honesty, the rule was crystal clear to begin with, and Cam and Dad broke it; but the NCAA wasn't about to render the Heisman winner ineligible before the megahyped NCG.
