"he first Western eyewitness to the deadly Benghazi terror attacks has given an account of the seven-hour assault on the U.S. outpost in Libya and says Americans knew such an incident was inevitable.

The witness -- a former British soldier who for decades helped protect U.S. diplomats and military leaders -- told CBS’ “60 Minutes” that Al Qaeda forces first attacked the U.S. Special Mission Compound in which Ambassador Christopher Stevens was killed. Then they launched a second attack on a secret CIA annex about a mile across the city.

“They knew what they were doing,” the security guard told CBS. “That was a well-executed attack.”

The guard said he was in his apartment about 15 minutes away from the attacks when he learned of them through a frantic phone call from a Libyan guard.

Quite a shame the House cut their security funding.

Yeah... 6 hours and 35 minutes after the attack started.... there was no funding... nor help.

Come to think of it... I don't remember any funding allocated for saving us citizens from Pirates in the open seas.

A post so childish, so amateurish, so immature, so transparent, so insulting to the intelligence, it didn't even warrant a substantive reply at all (Fred's, that is, not yours).

    Buffoonery, plain and simple.

The funding was for security enhancments to their facilities. It had nothing to do with funding for armed assistance.

I forget sometimes to dumb this stuff down to elementary school level. My bad.

Has nothing to do with anydamnthing--it's nothing but jock toting deflection.

Security enhancement would have bought additional time, not staved off any attack in perpetuity.

The admin. had plenty of time--they chose to hang the Ambassador (et. al.) out to dry.

    When was the funding cut

"In fact, the Congressional Research Service has documented that Congress, whether led by Democrats and Republicans, year after year did not fully fund the various pots of money for embassy security. (See page 25.) The State Department, for instance, was shortchanged by $142 million in fiscal year 2010, when Democrats controlled both houses of Congress. "

Meanwhile, while the Accountability Review Board investigation into the attack lamented the failure of Congress to provide necessary resources — and called for “a more serious and sustained commitment from Congress to support State Department needs” — it fixed the blame for the lack of security squarely on State Department officials.

“However, there was no supplemental or OCO request made by the President for additional diplomatic security enhancements in FY 2010 or FY 2011,” the report pointedly noted. “Neither the Department of State nor Congress made a point of providing additional funds in a supplemental request for Libya, or more specifically, Benghazi.”

Not what the official report says and that's what counts--not some partisan opinions. The Board excused the State Dept. due to the lack of the House's commitment to provide the money necessary to protect our embassy. The House was too worried about imposing austerity measures.

Did the Senate not put the money back in? Or did they agree with the House? Did the President request a Supplemental Appropriation for additional security. In 2010 when Dems controlled both houses did they get all of the money they needed?
