per Franz' thoughts of the day on 4/15/14

Kentucky coach John Calipari said Monday that as many as eight UK players could go early for the NBA Draft. Subract one. Willie Cauley-Stein says he will be back for his junior year even though he was certain to go in the first 20 picks. Alex Poythress is also expected to be back along with Darkari Johnson. Julius Randle, James Young and the Harrison twins are all expected to declare for the draft later this week

The ankle must be worse than expected and not allowing him to workout for potential teams. That would drop his stock drastically and so he probably had no choice but to return and show the ankle is ok.

Not so fast on those predictions..we shall see how it pans out.

Alex WILL be back as he has no choice......he would be able to graduate after next year as well.

I would've expecte WCS to go pro over Dakari bit if DAkari comes back, how can all 4 centers get any playin time (WCS! Johnson, Lee, Townes)? Good problem for a coach to have but not for the players. None of those players have any perimeter game. I suppose you could play 2 at one in some situations but not often. Gonna be hard to please everyone.

WCS coming back is obviously a plus for UK, but they are going to be stacked in the paint either way. The key are the Harrisons. If they don't return, Kentucky won't have the players on the wing to have the season they want. If they do return, look out.

That's the only thing that makes sense, otherwise I don't see why he'd come back. especially after calipari started johnson over him for some weird reason

The incoming one and doners can't be happy about this. There's a huge logjam in the post now.

Thi is where you are incorrect---the group we have coming in is NOT one and done--they ALL have major major flaws. These guys are fine with competition.

Kentucky is going to be really good again next year. A different dynamic because they will have some upper class leadership. Were I a Ky fan, I would be looking forward to it. Good thing is, despite the loss of leadership and talent, we are going to be an interesting and talented team as well...and we have BillyD at the helm.

Poythress is a stud, should go along with stein, dakari needs to come back to get his body in better condition.

Poythress is correct in staying...he was a 1st RD pick after last season, but likely undrafted this year due to lack of PT and position...if he comes back, develops his SF game, he can get back into 1st RD of 2015 draft....

Poythress is a good college player, but I've yet to see anything from him that makes me think NBA scouts want him.

WCS is another story. Barring injury, he'll have a long career in the NBA. Not as a star, but as a solid journeyman center.

Surprised Dakari might stay. He's not NBA-ready, but someone will always draft a 7-footer with skills.

This year, Poythress has what I would call a straight face problem. Meaning, he could not answer the following question from an NBA Scout with a straight face, "How have you improved from last year that you decided coming out this year was right for you?" That's a problem that any projected one year player may struggle answering in years 2 and 3 unless they have POY caliber years. (Marcus Smart is another one, for example.)

According to uk message boards...its a guarantee that the harrisons come back and a great possibility everyone returns. They are expecting the announcement any day now.

Was this Fraz's opinion or from a source?

Agree about Cauley-Stein. He's up and down, but he controlled the middle the last we played. 7-footers who can play will have a long, lucrative career in the NBA. Seems like a pretty good guy, too.

Wouldn't this cause a huge roster issue? How many incoming freshmen are there? 4? Is there enough room scholarship wise for everyone? The newbies are best served coming off the bench but you have to assume they figured a mass exodus of players to nba and immediate playing time (deserved or not).

A common misconception..these commits knew we were not going to lose a ton to the NBA..they can wait their turn or leave...pretty simple.

You are using the term "players' verrrrrry loosely. Don't they actually have to play to be players?
