Those who watched the Sugar Bowl saw a Gator team that tried and failed to win by throwing. We got down early and we just couldn't do it. Lots of reasons, poor pass blocking, it's not who we were, and first year in new system, and played a good D.

Let's just say in the course of this year, we are behind by two or more TDs. Could be due to turnover taken to the house, could be punt or kick return, could be a combo of things. Our current style is methodically plodding down the field, eating clock. A penalty here and there, a dropped pass, incompletions, rbs getting stuffed can easily eat clock and have nothing to show for it.

I am hoping WM has contingency plans to move the ball quickly if needed by air. We have seen this with uga when they needed to score quickly vs clemson. Sometime during the course of this year, we will need to scrap our gameplan and go to plan B. I am hoping this team is ready to do that. So far, I've yet to see it. I'm hoping this year is different.

JD is in the second year of same O. Hopefully the OL improves pass blocking. I believe Matt Jones and our FBs are better at picking up blitzers. I hope our wrs are better at finding open areas. At some point, I would like for us to work on this during a game, maybe vs kentucky. The concern I have is with long drives that eat clock, will we score enough to feel comfortable in letting the ball rip? I would hope the coaches would know and the team would know that if plan B is needed we are capable. I don't know that we know that at this point and I don't know if WM will do that during the game.

if we are down by 2 TD's in the first half they should continue to run the football

This is a good argument on why we should still throw in games that we do not necessarily have to throw to win.

That is at some point, maybe at Miami, maybe Georgia, maybe at USC, maybe FSU, maybe at LSU...we will need to throw.

We will be down by a couple scores at some point this season. We will need a 2 minute drive at some point. I'd much rather have the team confident and fully prepared for such a moment, and the only way to do that is to do it in other games.

You are sure we will need to throw?
Why wont the team be confident and full prepared now?

You are frowned upon in these areas, but you stay.

We are willing to smile upon throwing the ball if you're willing to leave. Deal?

Isn't throwing the ball what got us down to UL in the first place?

If we're in a situation where the opposing defense knows we're going to have to pass the ball a lot to win, it could be rough for us. It really just depends on how good Robinson, Burton and Showers are at making plays.

Also if this team is in a position where we have to throw the ball a lot to win, a lot has gone wrong.

Throwing the ball to a Louisville defender got us down. If the ball was thrown to our player we would have been ahead. Besides, since when has going down 0-7 on the first play of the game meant you were going to lose the game? Teams have come back from 0-21 in the first quarter and eventually won.

Safe to say all teams trail at some point. Even nearly all MNC teams are either down by a couple scores or down late at some point during the season.

My point is actually the same as Will's except in regards to passing. He wants to install toughness so that it'll be there when we need it. Same with the passing game. Hard to expect to move the ball 80 yards in a minute if we never try it until then.

the problem with the NFL approach of long methodical drives is that these are college players. THe chance of turnovers is way higher. If you don't work on the passing game some before you need it to come back then you won't be ready.

Yes, as long as we minimize turnovers, mistakes, and penalties.

My problem is that its too dependent on staying on schedule-- we have one penalty against us, we get stuffed behind the line one play and boom a drive is done- a good offense shouldn't look at 3rd and 12 and go: "well, run it in to the line and punt, no reason to take a risk for the impossible".

We moved the ball through the air on that last drive against uga pretty well, unfortunately Reed fumbled
