    Hey,

Looks like a bloodbath in Eugene, but I would think it is when a team like this is faced with such a task that nobody gives them a chance...not even the Ducks. This "throw your jock on the field and expect to win" mentality is ok against smaller schools, but I really don't think Butch Jones will field such a squad. Now, I'm in no way saying they will win, but I think they will beat the spread. I'd bet my remaining kidney on it.

    Go Gators!!

That spread is way too big to toy with IMO. I'd stay away.

Kind of hard to tell how good UT really is and if they are somewhat improved.

Austin Peay was basically a high school team.

WKY- Turned the ball over way to much and basically took themselves out of the game in the first quarter..

    27.5 points WOW

I cant remember the last time a SEC team was a 27.5 point dog to anyone outside of the SEC in a long time. Maybe I am off but thats a ton of points.

Why is everyone assuming the Vols will lose....they look pretty good to me...and seeing as how we just lost to an unranked Miami, anything is possible. Oregon is beatable as proven over and over and over

Vols should keep the score somewhat respectable. Oregon should win comfortably by 17-20 points.

As one who misses the rivalry from the 90's, that statement still gives a good chuckle.

I dont know, even in Eugene 27.5 points is a lot.

I'd love to see Tenn win this one just to shut up the people who are all over the ducks nuts. They don't play Defense in Eugene but the media wants to pimp them as this great team because of their offense.

According to Stassen, Miami was ranked 29th, with 7 of 20 publications picking them to be ranked in the top 25. Tennessee wasn't in the Top 50, and were picked 10th of 14 teams in the SEC, and 6th in the SEC East.

Oregon IS beatable, but who beat them in the last five years?

    Year---------Opponent--------W/L Record-------Score-------Margin of Loss

    2012.................Stanford.............12-2................14-17..................-03
    2011.................LSU.....................13-1................27-40.................-13
    2011.................USC.....................10-2...............35-38..................-03
    2010.................Auburn................14-0...............19-22..................-03
    2009.................Boise Statee.......14-0..................8-19.................-11
    2009.................Stanford................8-5...............42-51..................-09
    2009.................Ohio State...........11-2...............17-26..................-09
    2008.................Boise State..........12-1...............32-37..................-05
    2008.................USC......................13-1...............10-44.................-34
    2008.................Cal.........................9-4................16-26................-10

    Average....................................12-2................22-32................-10

Only one loss by more than two TDs. Oregon is a legitimate natioinal powerhouse.

During that same span, Tennessee had four losing seasons in five years, with Kiffin's only year going 7-6. Their cumulative record over that span is 28-34. That ranks Tennessee 10th of 12 SEC teams, and they would also be behind Mizzou and Texas A&M if we count their Big XII years. It was Tennessee's collapse that enabled USCe to rise to the Big Six in the SEC.

Some day (hopefully not soon), Tennessee will return to their former selves, but frankly, I love to see them wallow in their own excrement. We'll see if Volsheimers can erase those heady years from 1989 through 2004...

I think Tenn not only can cover but possibly even win. I don't go by past stats completely. I use hunches. The last time the Ducks lost, I think, was last year when Stanford beat them. Stanford did it by being physical with the Ducks. I think Tenn can hang around just based purely on muscle.

If things break right, Tenn could shock them and win.

They might not be one of the elite defenses this year, but I would not claim that they don't play defense. At least one ranking unit had their defense #8 in 2012.

    #5 in 2011

    #3 in 2010

Of course this is a different team in 2013, but it's hard to say they don't play defense, given their recent past. BTW, 2013 rankings are not available on that site until week 7, but NCAA.com has them tied for 38, as measured solely by yds/game.

And this spread is tempting, but I would not touch it.

Ducks are averaging 63ppg and I think 650ypg.

Tennessee will have to be strong on the LOS and much more disciplined on defense than last year or they'll get 50+ hung on them.

I think the Vols can keep it close in the first half and cover this spread, in part because Oregon is probably looking at them like the losing team from last year, and in part because Jones is liable to have them playing with something to prove.

It's just a guess though. I wouldn't touch this line.

While thats certainly higher than I'd expect, I looked at their schedule for those years and they didn't play any world beaters. The mad hatter put up 40 points on their D in one of those years.

Ducks have been getting good athletes on defense as well as offense the past few years.

I think they probably also do well by getting up early and making other teams one dimensional.
