We have some on both sides of the line..........

Since we "started" so many last year throughout the injury plagued season I'm not sure who counts.

    TIA!

Not sure who counts as returning starters officially, but players with three starts or more and significant PT..

    QB: JD
RB: KT, Brown, Jones (should be one starter among them)
TE: n/a... Burton, but wouldn't count him - McGee s/b the man
    WR: Dunbar
OL: DJ, Moore, Garcia, Green(?... 2012 starter)

I think most magazines would count 7 on offense, including Burton at TE (who won't start), but not counting Brown or Green, and I think Green should count.

    DE: Bullard
    DTs: Cummings, Orr
    Buck: Fowler
    LBs: Ball, Morrison
    CB: VHIII

    7 on defense.

Also return our kickers, and a kick returner (2012). Punter and kick returner are all conference level if they play to their ability.

Our "returning starter" at QB, Skylar Morningwigg, appears to have been beaten out by Jeff Driskel. ;)

Depending on how you define returning starter, the list could either be quite impressively long or discouragingly short.

If "returning starter" means any player that has started at least one game last year or prior years, we probably have close to 20 b/c we had so many injuries.

Heck, 2 of the 4 gator players listed in the ALL SEC teams be the SEC media are returning starters who missed the entire year last year, Chaz Green and Andre Debose.

At some positions we would have multiple "returning starters"....2 at QB (Driskel and Skyler), 3 at TB (Brown, Jones and Taylor), we have 3 "returning starters" at safety despite losing our 2 main starters from 2013, Jaylen Watkins and Cody Riggs. Brian Poole, Marcus Maye and Jabari Gorman have all started at safety.

How do you define returning starter? Some of the Pre-season mags seem to be seriously undercounting UF's starters.

Very good points....but the same could be made for a lot of teams. Maty Mauk, Hutson Mason, & Dylan Thompson have all started at least 2 games last year but are not considered "returning starters". They are, in fact, listed in all of the "new starters at QB in the SEC" articles that were out last week.

Phil Steele lists us as having 7 on offense and 7 on defense.

Wonder which players and what his "formula" was?

I didn't see the actual player's names listed.

In fact don't see them listed anywhere....just a generic "we have "x" returning starters.

Probably counting Jones and Joyer at RB, FB, along with DJ at OL (Green was out all year), and probably Cummings rather than Orr, but I think both should be counted.

Thanks Oak! D.J. Humphries and Darius Cummings....

Makes you wonder though - Kelvin Taylor played in almost all the games last year as did Mack Brown - why did Phil only list (1) RB? We're LOADED at that position right now!

Ummmm, maybe because only 1 TB usually starts.

Well the category was for RB, FB....hence TWO positions.

    Your turn....

My turn? Okay, Brown & Taylor play THE SAME POSITION! HELLO!

Why don't you ask why he doesn't list 2 QB's? Skylar & JD made about the same # of starts last year.....

    Your turn.

I agree with your question about QB - good analogy.

    ========

But when I asked about Taylor and Brown, etc. you said we only played one "TB".

Brown, Jones, and Taylor are all listed as "RB" --- not TB.

It complicates the discussion if you use a position not listed as that player's designated position in the list posted above.

    ==========

    These are our RB's:

    20Brandon PowellRB5' 9"177FRHSDeerfield Beach/Deerfield Beach
    22Adam LaneRB5' 7"222RFRSQWinter Haven/Winter Haven
    33Mack BrownRB5' 11"209RSR3LLithonia, Ga./King
    24Matt JonesRB6' 2"235JR2LSeffner/Armwood
    31Darius MaslineRB5' 8"176RSOSQJacksonville/Raines
    21Kelvin TaylorRB5' 10"209SO1LBelle Glade/Glades Day
    37Mark HerndonRB5' 9"195JR2LOcala/Forest

I ask again...why did Phil Steele only list 1 RB when we had more than one as starter last season?

    Your turn...

If you don't get it by now you never will....but if he was going to list a 2nd "RB" it would be a FB. There are only 11 spots on the field at once...

UF has a lot of returning experience. The returning starter stat is all in the eye of the beholder.

UF returns a QB that has started 17 games (finishing 15)
A back up QB that has started 3 games
3 RB's that have started games = Taylor, Brown, Jones
1 FB that has started games = Joyer
2 TE's that have started games = Westbrook, Burton (plus Mcgee at virginia)
2 WR's that have started games = Dunbar, Debose
5 OL that have started games = Brown, Green, Moore, Garcia, Humphries
4 DL that have started games = fowler, bullard, cummings, orr
4 LB that have started games = davis, morrison, taylor, ball
3 DB's that have started games = poole, vh3, gorman

UF has a lot of returning experience. No way around that. The injuries make last year hard to count though for returning starters by any metric this year.
