I may buy stock in a flag manufacturer!
Not sure how they will fit 52 on there...but that isn't my problem as long as the orders roll in!

If California splits, watch for Florida next. We should be three states given the huge political disparity between regions.

Not that the polling is that comprehensive, but the measure has something like 17% support. I don't think it has a chance.

Dividing states on political lines seems like a recipe for disaster.

Kind of like political gerrymandering congressional districts, but on a grander scale.

Dividing Florida seems logical. They could call everything outside of Dade County "Florida" and everything in Dade County "Not Florida". :D

Not gonna happen but interesting to talk about, I guess.

California is a very large, very culturally and economically diverse state. Easy to see how different constituencies would get dissatisfied with statewide decisions.

The constitution sets a pretty high bar for this to actually happen.

Maybe they could do it like Corrine Brown's district--Jacksonville to Eatonville via Palatka. Go Gata!

Not only that, but its just profoundly stupid that California gets 2 senators, the same amount of Senators as Wyoming. I don't think its just statewide decisions that make this idea palatable.

Yeah. What happens when someone becomes conservative in NorCal, then another, and another? Northern North California?

It's symptomatic of our biggest problem right now. This country needs to get along or die.

I don't think two senators per state is stupid. It is by design so that smaller states don't get completely over run in the legislative process. Also so that there is a bit more maturity and contemplation in that side of congress with the six year terms and tougher path to get elected.

What I think is colossally stupid is allowing gerrymandering, and allowing partisan control of the electoral system. The two big parties are screwing us for their own good, while blocking third parties from becoming viable.

I also think the Electoral College in rubber stamp, winner take all form that it currently executes in, is stupid. It should be proportional rather than winner take all. This should encourage higher voter turn out everywhere, and greatly decrease the practice of nominees just campaigning in swing states. Everyone's vote matters because it goes to the proportion in your state.

Good point. When you see it visually like this, it makes one wonder if a couple of more states do it--at some point it will mean Obama will be elevated to a prophet in the eyes of his worshippers.

I think we outgrew the size of a republic that is still functional a long time ago. Especially if you ask Plato. I'm just not sure there is a better option.

LOL. Nice catch... computer/network issues. Didn't act like it was posting.

I deleted the dupes... for reference of anybody who can't tell what you're talking about.
