Scary stuff when 7 police officers arrest this driver for felony charges--probably to make a quota for the night.

    http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/uva-girl-water-beer-jail-181104442.html

"...she had just bought from a local supermarket when the agents—six men and one woman, all in plainclothes—approached suspecting the box, a blue carton of LaCroix sparkling water, to be a 12-pack of beer. One jumped on the hood of her SUV; another pulled out a gun, Daly said, as her roommates seated inside looked on in horror."

Pulled a gun on a 20 yr old because they suspected she purchased alcohol? What a freakin' joke.

I don't understand. Even if it was beer, why would 7 cops need to approach the car, some of them jumping on the hood of the car?

As an aside, I don't think I can roll down my windows without starting my engine. Maybe it's possible, I just don't know how with my new "push start" ignition.

Edit: because I'm anal retentive, I had to update my post. I remembered I can raise/lower my windows without starting the engine by pushing the ignition button with my foot NOT on the brake. :geek:

I'm calling BS on the kid's story, but then, I'm reasonable and not a kneejerk cop hater.

So, the cops arrested two innocent girls and then to add insult to injury they throw in some trumped-up BS charge on top of that?

Unfreaking real! I'd sue the $$$hit out of that police department.

"Charlottesville Commonwealth's Attorney Dave Chapman read Daly's account and said it was factually consistent."

Isn't it also a knee jerk reaction to assume the kid was lying. Do you hate college students or bottled water drinkers?

I didn't say she was lying. I think she freaked out and the police freaked out and what really happened is somewhere in the middle of the story being told. However, the title is misleading and the article is so one-sided it's basically useless. I don't believe for a second there were seven cops jumping all over her car with guns pointed at her trying to break her windows.

Just look what happens when you try to breastfeed your child in this country.
No wonder the rest of the world has questions about us.

Seven undercover cops going after a few potential underage drinkers, who weren't actually underage drinkers? Weapons drawn, jumping on their car?

There is no reasonable world in which that is acceptable - either in terms of what the police put them through, or in terms of the egregious waste of taxpayer dollars.

And there is little wonder they tried to escape - they were being attacked by an unknown group of people with guns, for no plausible reason. For all they knew they were going to be kidnapped or murdered.

They did the right thing trying to escape and calling 911... at least they got some documentation of the attack.

From what I read this is the way I see it. Seven agents are going to arrest two girls who weren't doing anything wrong to start with. They should all be given time off without pay in my opinion.

I'd take it a step further.

I'd say that community needs at least eight fewer police if that's how they're spending their time and the community's tax dollars. Those seven plus the moron that gave them that assignment.

They should all get fired. Not for acting like idiots, but because they are agents of the alcohol beverage control department (or some such nonsense), and could not even recognize the blue carton as water and not beer.

Then again, how did they even know the girl was underage to begin with? And if so, should they also have a hard-on for the supermarket that sold her the alleged beer?

This stinks to high heaven or there are really big parts of the story that are missing.
