Snowden released documents about NSA spying on brazil and petrobas. Even though 0 spent 2 hours begging her to come, she has refused.

Funny thing is Putin controlled seating at G20 so he sat 0 next to Brazilian prez just to make him uncomfortable since 0 knew that Brazil was pissed. Putin dissing 0 and controlling the Syrian agenda apparently emboldened Brazil who never would have refused an invitation to meet US President before now.

meanwhile, US is guaranteeing billions in very low interest loans to Petrobas while US domestic oil companies are paying between 5.5% and 9% for their loans right now

and to top it off, Brazil is dragging their feet and now considering other vendors after Boeing was apparent victor in a military aircraft RFP.

even the developing world at this point. you would think that a few billion in US backed low interest loans to their economy would get a guy a meeting wouldn't you?

Our own people refer to the guy as "0". I'm not sure we're exactly modeling respectful behavior here.

respect is earned. this man has done nothing to earn any respect. winning an election doesn't automatically qualify you as an individual that has earned respect although I have a great deal of respect for the office.

Most feel it isn't a the fault of the disrespector as much as it is the fault of the President not commanding respect.

If by "most" you mean most people who call him names, then I'm sure you're right. That doesn't make them right though.

Well then we'll disagree on what type of person deserves to be called by their name. But to the point, if you feel like the guy deserves to be called '0', I'm not sure what the issue is here with anyone else denigrating him as well.

Our own people, supporters and opponents alike, referred to Obama's predecessor as "W". I don't see a big deal in "O".

would O be better and make everybody happy if I used his initial instead of a symbol for the respect he has earned?

they are not denigrating him, they are disrespecting the office because of him. I could care less of what they think of him as a person but I do care about how it impacts how they view the US as a world power and supporter of their economy with our tax $$$.

    can you understand the distinction?

O and W I see as the same. I probably wouldn't do it, but I'm not sure it is disrespectful as much as it is informal. (My students call me Dr. O, and I tell them to). But as Gr8t is pointing out, the character being used is 0, not O. The 0 is definitely intended as disrespectful.

Yeah, I personally would be better with O, but I certainly don't expect you to try to appease me with your labels for the president.

I do see the distinction, but I'm guessing that we would disagree regarding the level to which this is happening. The article is indicating that Snowden's leak is really the cause of the ruckus here.

OK, I didn't catch the O/0 distinction. Sorry.

the cause of the ruckus is that the NSA, under O's command, was spying on Brazil and O didn't see a problem with it or was unaware of it. not sure which scenario paints him in a worse light.

your description is analogous to the thief blaming the cop that caught him

Does any president spend much time on what this country's spooks are doing, unless some special op comes up that requires his authorization?

Spying on Brazil. Where are budget cuts when you need them? It reminds me of when I was in the Peace Corps in Peru, and a Peruvian accused me of being a spy. I asked him, "What does Peru have to spy on?"
