You do know that most northeastern states have ZERO early voting....don't you?

I have a summer home near Boone and I can tell you that when Appalachian State has a basketball game they can fill up a ten thousand seat arena in about half an hour with 90% of the students walking more than a mile. Much ado about nothing.

Here lets first end this foolishness over a mistake I made (and corrected) already in this thread...

The issue in watuga is not black college related...I already explained that I had read a number of stories about a number of suppression efforts and incorrectly associated the black college targeting to this story...it isn't.

That "angle" of the story is correctly attributed to the Elizabeth City College story.

Without going through every detail...black college students are actively being challenged to their right to vote by a GOP election official. One black student activist who wants to run for office is being challenged on the basis of residency and that could be a precedent to denying the right of college students to vote at school statewide.

Here, you can catch up fast if you didn't know....

So all of the reports of how white Boone is, or App St not being a black college were nice but unnecessary and don't really address the actual position of the OP which was in Wautuga the changes are not logical (doesn't save money, not more efficient, doesn't improve fraud checking) but make voting harder...

    Supression.

No other valid reason for doing this, or the King case at Elizabeth City, or reducing early voting, or eliminating early registration, etc.

    And?

A majority of the states (32) do offer early voting.

    http://www.ncsl.org/legislatures-elections/elections/absentee-and-early-voting.aspx#early

States offer three ways for voters to cast a ballot before Election Day:

    1. Early Voting: In 32 states and the District of Columbia, any qualified voter may cast a ballot in person during a designated period prior to Election Day. No excuse or justification is required.

    2. Absentee Voting: All states will mail an absentee ballot to certain voters. The voter may return the ballot by mail or in person. In 21 states, an excuse is required, while 27 states and the District of Columbia permit any qualified voter to vote absentee without offering an excuse. Some states offer a permanent absentee ballot list: once a voter asks to be added to the list, s/he will automatically receive an absentee ballot for all future elections.

    3. Mail Voting: A ballot is automatically mailed to every eligible voter (no request or application is necessary), and the state does not use traditional poll sites that offer in-person voting on Election Day. Two states use mail voting.

What he's saying is the barriers to voting will be felt by everyone whether or not its racially motivated.

And that pissing off the general electorate, both black & white, will get you the same result at the polls you got in 2012...more people pissed at the GOp and turning out to show them their anger with the games they're playing.

I was not replying to you other than to thank you for the work you did in breaking it down as you did. I was pointing out to the voter suppression folks what was actually stated in the OP! Sorry if you took it to be about your post.

That's not what happened in NC. That's why they have the majority and are make some changes. Guess we will have to wait and see in the next round of elections won't we?

Did the black panther party affect 1,000 voters?

The general trivial nature you accept people having their rights impaired by political gamesmanship is amazing.

Remind us again why the change is being made?

    Its improving what?

And that's all people have been saying but conservatives deny, deny, deny...

This isn't about voter fraud, its targeting specific groups to make their voting experience more difficult...

    Equal Protection Clause.

    Violation of the VRA.

It's not being done to suppress anyone's vote! Just because you presented this as a plot by the GOP to suppress votes, but when you look at all the facts, you see it for what it is. Closing polling facilities that were less than a mile away for each other and under utilized by voters due to the widespread use of early voting. Which is only 10 whole days now that it has been cut back a little.

The horror of only having 11 days to vote! How would anyone ever fit it in to their schedule, especially college students with no spare time whatsoever!

Maybe you should be out campaigning for Holder to sue the states that don't have early voting, since they are suppressing the vote!

Those of us who know and understand the Constitution say it's not. Now, whether an activist judge(s) hear(s) it, well there is your determining factor.

Nope. Only when the make shiz up and go against the great document.

For instance, their ruling on ObamaCare.

You'd(rhetorically speaking) have to be a Constitutional moron or an activist to rule they way they did.
