Good weather, crashed upon landing. Tail fell off while landing and plane flipped.

    Pray for travelers/survivors

Just now. Flight 214 from Seoul, Asiana Air.

Might not have flipped, smoke clearing. On the news channels.

One person said it flipped, another that it cartwheeled and wing broke off.

A passenger, David Eun, tweeteed after the crash: "Fire and rescue people all over the place. They're evacuating the injured. Haven't felt this way since 9/11.''

Later, Eun Tweeted: "I'm fine. Most people are totally calm and trying to help. .. the majority of passengers seem OK.''

Eun almost certainly would have been flying in the first class cabin, which based on the photos should be right under the forwardmost of the burnt-out parts of the cabin roof. That fact, combined with his expression that most people seemed to be ok, is reassuring.

Reports of fatalities are mixed. The following article is listing no fatalities but there are critically injured people:

On a side note the article states there is a growing shortage of qualified pilots:

If he reads this maybe our resident pilot can chime in on the shortage of pilot claims.

I fly almost every week and over the past year have started to wonder about pilot experience levels even while boarding airlines like Delta and American. Just takes one under qualified pilot under a small amount of stress to have a horrific result.

I think this pilot may have just flat out touched down too soon.

Obviously pilot error. They landed short. Caught the end of the runway.

Clear skies, relatively calm winds. No question. Pilot error.

As for the so-called pilot shortage, it is somewhat true. Except there are plenty of qualified and experienced pilots to fill the ranks. The problem is, all airlines are seeking mindless pilots; those they can train to be robots. Delta is notorious for this. They hire young. Tear them down to their basic piloting abilities, then mold them into company pilots.

The likes of pilots like Al Haynes and Sully are over. The new breed of pilot will fly into the side of a mountain because s/he is following his/her company procedures right to the very end.
