This. Is this the year that all this service to his country results in a little additional benefit in the form of some players enjoying the experience of playing for coach and come to Gainesville for another helping?

Yes, Osiris, it is very interesting that Coach Donovan does a great job with these kids and really earns their respect, but then you can literally feel them thinking: "Sheesh, if I go to Florida, I've got to work like this for as long as I stay. I think I will choose a coach who requires less work and less discipline."

I don't think that's the issue, considering a couple of them are heading to Duke. Coach K is not easy to play for. Randle should have been the one last year. He was the leading scorer on the USA team and loved playing for Donovan. He just decided on UK at the very end.

Think of Randle and Patric Young in the front court together. Just try fighting through those guys for a rebound.

I'm obviously a Randle fan and I'm not trying to diminish his ability here, but it seems to me he would have had to acknowledge a LOT of competition for playing time had he picked UF (at the time he was choosing). Young, Yuegette, Harris, DFS, Walker (he'd committed already, right?) Randle could have looked at UK knowing he was the only true power forward on the team and that he'd be competing against other freshmen and a couple sophomores for playing time. I think he would have been UF's best option at power forward also, but with FAR less of a margin for error - playing for a coach with lots of more experienced (and still talented) UF-system ready options available to him.

I'm not suggesting Randle would have regretted a UF decision or anything like that - just hard for me to see that its logical that he "should" have picked to play for Billy. Something I'm missing here?

Here are a few familiar names:
Antonio Blakeney, Austin Grandstaff (committed to OSU), Isaiah Briscoe, Tyler Dorsey, Justise Winslow (Duke), etc. However, not all of these made the final roster!

    Check out Billy's record as US18/19 basketball coach (16-0 so far & 2 Gold medals:2012, 2013)

btw, the coach who gave UF one of its worst records all-time is also on that list of US coaches; although, he did not fare too well in 1989!

Here is an old story about the 2013 U.S. U19 gold medal team - the one with Mike Frazier on the team.

Here is the write-up over Uruguay win.
    U.S. wins by 98 in U-18 tourney

Looks like Duke's Luke Kennard filled in the role of the 3-pt-range assassin that Mike Frazier similarly filled in a previous US U-18 team!

With players like Winslow, Kennard, & Jahil Okafer (not on this team), Duke is going to field a very talented team next season.
