    Coaching is partly psychological.
See thread about his approach to PY.

Agree that we have a long way to go.....and that we will be really, really good when we get there.

I hope that everyone knows that our points against last year was a product of excellent half court D along with extreme patience on O. We really slowed the game down. So much for what many desire and a return to "Billy Ball".

That comment would not be viewed favorably on swampgas.

Billyball has never been a run-and-gun style. It's always been about ball-movement, picks, screens, ball-reversal on offense. I don't think we slowed the game down on offense any more than we ever have. The big thing is, we don't press as much as we did when Billy first arrived. The 2000 team was maybe the most up-tempo and pressing team we've fielded.

I've been watching long enough to be confident that BD will adjust his press to fit the personnel successfully. After we get a full complement of players healthy and eligible later this season, we might see the defensive fullcourt heat get ratcheted up. Then again, maybe not, if it turns out we're a lockdown halfcourt team.

Thing is that we really didn't "slow the game down" that considerably.

our shots per game was down only 4 shots a game.....but at the same time our points per game stayed constant at 72. So we were also much more efficient.

But I wouldn't consider our offense approach as slowed down or overly methodical.

I was going to say the same thing. His reputation carried forward as a strictly offensive player but he was a high energy, solid perimeter defender for us last year. Much better than I expected.

According to Pomeroy's stats we were number 294 out of 347 teams in terms of tempo last season.

Sure, but the tempo point is somewhat moot, as our defensive efficiency was insane last year. We only gave up 83.5 adj pts/poss, which ranks 4th of all teams over the past five seasons.

I did say that our D was excellent. Excellent D with a slow tempo will get you an insane PPG number which is what we had.
