That's one huge Gator.
i hate seeing them pull any of the really big gators/fish just for records. get a pic and let them live out their lives. keep the normal ones
I agree 100%, sad to see these old specimens killed for no good reason at all when they could be left or returned to their natural surroundings, same with Florida bears who continue to roam their habitat when a subdivision pops up- relocation is so much more sensible than killing them for doing what is there nature.............
Any wildlife for that matter. I always say you can get your trophy by taking a picture of it.
except edible fish and maybe a trophy turkey or buck...I can agree with the rest
In their defense, if they were out gator hunting at night I don't even know if they knew how big it was when they hit it with the cross-bow. No sense in releasing it after it was hit with that.
I don't think you can use a crossbow for Alligator hunting here in MS. I think you have to use a rod and reel and a big treble hook. You cast over the gator and then hook it, and you shoot it when you get it up to the boat. At least that's what I've been told by some people here who hunt them.
article says crossbow
Sorry. I didn't read the article originally but now I have. I know they changed some aspects of the laws recently and that may be one of them. Either that or my friend didn't know they could use a crossbow.
Funny story: last year my pastor got invited to go gator hunting with some men from the church. They killed a 450-pounder. They had already harvested a smaller alligator. While trying to reel in the big one my pastor put the rifle down in the boat. Somehow a claw from the smaller gator got on the trigger and shot a hole in the boat. So between bailing water and fighting a big gator they had quite a night.
Should have sent the "gator boys ", would have made for quite a show.
Kinda pisses me off -
I know they are "hunting" but this gator was by far the supreme gator in the area.
They're really not that many gators in the area.
I would have rather seen them let this gator go. This has nothing to do with me being a gators fan, but as an animal conservative. If we keep killing because we can then it disrupts the natural food chain and killing and eating for survival of different species.
PS for everyone the tasmanian devil is up for extinction soon.
Man thinks they can kill anything because we have weapons now-
we need to keep the balance of life on the planet.
The lesser male Gators are probably glad
