Ok, I've almost finally decided to bite the bullet and buy a console. I know the Wii is all but dead so it looks like the competition is between the XBOX and PS (?). I really liked the concept behind the Wii with having fitness as an aspect of playing. Up until now I've been almost religiously against getting a console even though the NHL and NCAA series games are no longer available as PC-DVD.

Can anyone here educate me on the advantages/disadvantages of the consoles out there?

I have a ps3 and Xbox 360. They are both pretty similar as to what they offer imo. Normally I would say to choose one based on the exclusive content you like more. That might not be the case for you. So a few things to consider.

PlayStation network is free. XBOX live is about 50/yr. Ps3 is also a bluray player. Xbox 360 is not. Xbox has kinect which might give you some of the things you want from the wii like kinect sports.

Another thing to think about is that this generation of consoles may be near it's end. It's definitely beyond the midway point for their lifespan.

Yeah, this would be an odd time to take that plunge.

Both XBOX and PS3 have motion controllers now, so they fill that niche that Wii did. I've never met anyone who played one of those Wii fitness games for more than a week, though. It's a pretty terrible way to get exercise.

Both of these answers pretty much sum it up. I have both and feel the same way. The controller configuration is the only difference as to the gaming part of them. Like they said one is free and one has bluray.

Well the one that is free and has bluray is the same console.

I never watch bluray discs so it's largely been irrelevant for me anyway.

I have a ps3 and bought it because of the blu ray player. From the reviews it is an excellent blu ray player. I use it as essentially a home media server. I imagine that the xbox can do the same thing albeit without the blu ray.

I don't know whether xbox live offers the ability to download free demos of games if you haven't subscribed to it. Play Station network has a lot of free game demos - many of which my son continues to play without buying the entire game. Some are time limited to an hour but most are downloadable content that you can play for the long term if you wish. If the xbox doesn't have that, it would really tip things inthe direction of the ps3.

YA YA I'm bringing a thread back ---

    I'm interested in a PS4 - I just can't bring myself to buy one.
Anyone else buying the new system or even the xbox one?
From what I have seen there isn't even a new college football game yet for either console.
Anything I'm missing that I really should want from either of the two.

I will eventually get one or both of them but I'm in no rush. There will still be good games on the current gen for a while longer.

    Get PS4.

I was an Xbox (almost fanboy) supporter all the way but Microsoft really screwed the pooch with XboxOne.

Forcing people to buy Kinect for starters.

Not being able to share games.

Can't play games unless you have an internet connection, even non-multiplayer games.

Expensive multiplayer (this isnt a huge deal but compared to PS4 its just another thing to add on)

Kinect Camera needs to be on for console to function (hello hackers)

Theres more that Im probably missing but you get the point. Some of these things may have changed but I had already made my mind up before Microsoft tried to backtrack after Sony blew them out of the water when they showed the PS4 and its features. They actually made a funny video to make fun of xbox.

They have retracted basically all of the above which is why I am open to purchasing the system again given an exclusive title I really want to play. That said I am leaning towards PS4 as I do like their exclusive titles a bit more and they didn't try to do any of the stupid stuff Microsoft did.

Yep thats basically where Im at. I was all set for the Xb1, I was going to preorder it after I saw what it had to offer. I thought we would see a badass new gaming system but they showed a media center that oh by the way, kinda plays games if you're online... I was like huh... but still I had hope.

Then they just kept coming up with dumb idea after dumbass idea. Then I heard what PS4 had to offer and I was sold immediately. Maybe like you said if they have some really good exclusive, I may pick it up somewhere down the road, but Im going with PS4.

I've got both pre-ordered. That said, for multiplatform games I am likely going to be buying most (if not all) on PS4. Kinect at this point is still a gimmick, and several devs have said the PS4 is noticeably more powerful. You're going to see some exclusives on PS4 that are noticeably better than anything on Xbone within 2-4 years.

Helix what launch titles are you looking at? I think the only one that I was interested in was Watch Dogs. And I am not even sure if that is a launch title. I figure I will still be into Arkham Origins when the new systems launch so I wasn't planning on pre-ordering.
