Seems whenever we lose a recruit we didn't really want them and their not that good. I say bs. We lose recruits because they change their mind about the program and/or coaches. Since I hear trust the coaches all the time, if we offered, we thought he was a good prospect.

Both schools and players have "placeholders." This is well known and makes perfect sense. It doesn't mean they wouldn't have taken the player/accepted the scholarship at the time but the situation has changed and they feel they can do better.

If you've been to college or had a kid go it works the same way for normal students.

Colleges are juggling 1000's of applicants. We offer 20-30 football offers. If the coaches were willing to honor the commitment, we wanted this player. Better odds we wind up with a OL player not in the ESPN 300, and then all will say trust the coaches. Sometimes the O&B glasses amaze me.

Abject denial of reality amazes me.

Your citation of fewer scholarships is the exact reason for initially offering but then later deciding there were other players you would prefer to get. Players develop at different rates and coaches fully evaluate other players later on. Moreover, a school's fortunes change with players over time.

The most telling indication that we do not want him anymore is that we were not in contact with him for over a month. If he was growing cold on us we would have still persistently contacted him.

No one is saying that every recruit that decommits was one we didn't want. That is clearly not the case. Just as it is clearly not the case that every recruit that decommits was entirely of their own volition.

A few years back we offered and received a commitmit from DL Linval Joseph from Santa Fe High School. Then right before signing day we dumped him because John Brown and another 5* guy were going to sign with us. John Brown never played a down and the other guy played briefly before getting dismissed from the team. Linval Joseph turned into a star in college and started as a Rookie for the Titans. If you expect an 18 yr. old kid to honor a commitmit and criticize him when he doesn't, then it's hypocritical to say "well, the coaches found someone better." Because sometimes they don't.

I agree people shouldn't take it so seriously. Kids and schools need to do what is best for them.

As for Linval, I thought the party line was that he didn't lose weight like we asked him to. It wouldn't surprise me if we dumped him for someone we thought was better though. Just watched Linval play for the Giants the other day.

I guess you're right there's a lot more room for error when you are offering 20 scholarships vs 1000's. If that's muschamps plan we will be getting some more ham and egger OL recruits.

More room for error? There's less. Where are you coming up with that?

What? A recent survey of the nation's top 2000 recruits showed that UF was the #1 choice of schools. Why would we have to settle for "ham and egger" OL recruit?

We dropped the kid. This happens all over the country. People that follow recruiting saw this coming for months.

DeLand lost to Bolles last week but they had a soph RB rush for 300 yds.
I guess he ran behind the other side of the line. /:

you even asking about star recruits on the Oline show how clueless you are about the position.

I'm no talent scout, but I would venture to say we have quite a few "ham and eggers", as some of you put it, on out 2 deep OL roster. I know we should trust the coaches, but with the OL talent we have, and this Knox decommit, I just find it hard to imagine we have a superstar OL recruit ready to step in to that scholarship spot. I hope I am wrong.
