    Apparently the hops fade and the flavor mellows out, similar to a barley wine.


    Full day of drinking including an assortment of Terrapin brew during a Pints for Prostates ride, 1809 (Berliner) and Lagunitas Little Sumpin Sumpin at a pool party. Go Gators!

    Yeah. I had a 2008 120 a few months ago and it was definitely a barleywine. Still really good. The hops fade and the malts sweeten. I recommend a side by side just to see the dif

    DFH 90 again. It tastes very different tonight. Must be all the milder IPAs I've had lately. It's really strong, alcohol strong.

    I'm a big fan of green flash now. Very glad they made it into Jacksonville.

    Just cracked open a lost coast winterbraun. Good but plenty of better browns out there.

    Thomas creek up the creek ipa.

    Very sweet, to be expected at 12.5 abv. Not sure how I feel ab it.

    Very difficult day. Our son is having a nervous breakdown at college. He may need to be hospitalized. I'm managing my breakdown at home with an old standby, Lagunitas Maximus. I could use some Xanax. That's nothing compared to what they're giving him.

    Karl Strauss Red Trolley Ale, Amber Ale and Octoberfest - all are sessionable pleasant tasting beers
    Stone Ruination IPA - too big of an IPA at over 100 IBUs
    Bear Republic Racer Five IPA - balanced perfectly
    MissionBay Blonde Ale
    Ballast Point Pale Ale
    Green Flash Hop Head Red

    Nice. We just got Bear republic in Jacksonville today. Drinking the racer 5 right now and agree. A good balanced ipa. Having their red rocket later tonight. Supposed to be a hoppy red, my favorite.

    I often forget what a perfect beer Racer 5 is, mostly because it's so reasonably priced. It's just right down the middle, perfect ABV, IBUs and just the right balance of thickness and drinkability. When the stronger IIPAs start to taste odd, the Racer 5 always gets me back to the baseline. All hail the Bear Republic.

    Lagunitas Brown Sugga'. Pretty good. Very smooth and a little sweet (as they advertise). I've gotten a little tired of the hops wars.
