Sipping on a Hop Head Red (as mentioned above) before kickball. I prefer the West Coast IPA but its not bad.

Cigar City has been crushing it lately, you out of staters are missing out but you have great trade ammo in your own right!

The beverage manager at Whole Foods just told me that the Backwoods Bastard is on its way. Not far behind is this year's last batch of DFH 120. He's promising me three bottles.

It's one of my favorites for sure, but not best ever IMO. BUT it's in the conversation for sure.

Maybe I discount it some because it's readily available, idk.

Having one of these right now. Definitely complex but maybe a little too hoppy for me, and I like hops.

My father-in-law served on the USS Sculpin submarine in WWII. I need to find this IPA. I'll have one in his honor.

Just make sure to check the bottling dates on Sculpin, 6-12 month old ipa's aren't so tasty but are much more common

I tend to agree, but it's weird because some people swear on aging them...

My Sculpin says enjoy by 12/12/12, so I figure I'm solid. They don't appear to have bottled on dates, just enjoy by. The Big Eye is marked the same so I'm assuming their brewery stamps that way.

The Backwoods Bastard or the 120? They don't even sell the 120 in four packs. They get broken up individually and sold by the single bottle, usually just one per customer. I was surprised that he offered up to three of them. He's got a list of preferred customers for the reserve beers. They don't even get put on display. Hard core craft beer nerds tend to know when certain beers are being released.

I don't even know if the Backwoods Bastard will go out in four packs. I'll try to snag one of those for you. If I miss it here, I'm heading to Grand Rapids for Thanksgiving and will probably drop by the brewpub to see if they still have some.

You're probably on your own with the DFH 120. Best bet is to go on their web site, look at the release dates for their speciality beers, then go to the "Fish Finder" to see who in your area sells DFH.

Your wife just drank 30 bottles of DFH 90? I'm impressed. Good thing she left you one.

Haha....her 30th birthday. She really just drinks wine. It works because she keeps her hands off my beer.

Sipping Jai Alai now. Going to drink the Sculpin tonight.

Yeah, I was talking about Backwoods and that would be amazing! We get 120 down here and I have a 2011 vintage that I'm aging to see how it changes.

Starting the night off with a Bell's Best Brown Ale tonight, cheers!

Waiting one more day on the sculpin. Started with Jai Alai earlier, then the rest of the DFH 90, now trying a DFH Indian Brown Ale. An ass backwards way of finishing, but whatever.

Initial reaction is it reminds me a bit of a Cigar City Maduro, but a bit stronger and a little more hops. An intriguing beer.

I wonder how long you can age a 120. The alcohol sweetness is so intense, I wonder if that won't get worse as the hops settle down. I'd be interested to hear how that tastes. I've never aged one that long, but only because I get tired of waiting to drink it.
