    not saying they are. but they could be looked at by the coach in the same way: misdemeanor, victimless crime (luckily, but still) first offense

    IDK what the "right" punishments are, but DUI and leaving an accident (while DUI), is definitely a much more serious offense than any possession charge.

    When people refer to drug arrests as victimless crimes, they are not talking about DUIs. DUIs are NOT victimless crimes - the laws exist to reduce actual and potential harm to other people on the road, whereas arrests for pot possession are designed to make money for police departments and prisons and to put young black males in prison. Just because the driver happened to not injure himself or anyone else doesn't make a DUI "victimless" in the same sense as simple possession.

    It might be a worse violation, but they can both be considered victimless crimes...

    I'm a bit out of tune. As soon as I read Brian's post I knew we were jinxed. Was the jinx Tabor or was there another ?

    You referenced the Gainesville cops, why else did you mention them in this particular scenario? It seems pretty obvious to me, but maybe in your universe it means something different.

    His comment was referencing them in general as some here believe, and it may be true to a point, that they target our guys for everything and anything and that we had been lucky so far not to have any issues. He wasn't blaming the cops for the DUI.

    That's what I took from it.

    Boyz will be boys. He will play every game this year, this is Alabama where in the order of importance of things is;
    Football
    Drinking before during and after the games
    Taking care of the players families so they have enough to eat, drink and have a nice SUV
    Sometimes they even have time for their own families and church, but this is only after watching a fall practice! LOL

    I know, it's a DUI thread, he is inferring that the god would do the same, as they should. Not in favor of cops, but if he was drunk this has nothing to do with cops or the gpd being supposedly aggressive towards football players, that entire notion is comical.

    See I totally got something else. I only saw the GPD referenced because of the lack of issues we've had. I'm sure he'll be here to correct one of us.

    Well it's suspicious he brings up the mythical gpd issue on a bama DUI thread...but I can't read the guys mind, so there is that.

    No it isn't suspicious at all. Re-read the thread. People were joking about the Fulmer Cup, rival team's arrests, etc. and my point was that we were lucky (at that time anyway) to have not had the misfortune of running afoul of the Barney Fife brigade in Gainesville. I think most people understood that. The GPD/UPD's vigilence against underage drinking, cup throwing, barking, squaring, etc. is well documented on this board. It's hardly mythical IMO.

    There may some truth to it, but it got old years ago. Most of us on this board are tired of the whining.

    Thanks for alerting me to the opinion of the masses. You'll excuse me if I don't take your word for "most of us on this board".

    While I don't necessarily buy into the claim, I'm not sure you can back that "most" comment up.
