Heading back to Austin. Was there for the first time last year and had some great meals. Any suggestions for new places (restaurants/bars) that I haven't been.

    Here is where I went:
LA Barbecue - went here instead of Franklin's. Still had a decent wait (they give you free beer while you wait) The food was ridiculously good.
Salty Sow - really liked this place.
Juan in a Million - famous breakfast place. Juan the owner is a trip. Very good breakfast burritos.
Banger's Sausage House & Beer Garden (didn't eat, but we drank)
Snooze - chain breakfast but the food was good.
Eddie V's - sat at bar during happy hour. Food was good, not great for the price.

Any favorite places to drink/listen to music on Rainey Street or 6th Ave?
Blind Pig Pub, Handlebar, Chugging Monkey and Bat Bar were pretty good when we were there.

I second Iron Cactus btw. Good spot downtown and it's walking distance to a lot of other good bars.

A bit further outside the city is the Salt Lick if you want good BBQ (actually rank it right there with Franklin's; and Rudy's is also consistently good for more of a Texas chain)

Banger's is a lot of fun; usually go back every time since it's such a cool bar to start the evening at.

I have heard of Salt Lick. We have a car so I think there are plenty of good options as close. LA Barbeque was ridiculously good. I heard they are in a store now instead of a truck.

I agree about Bangers. Rainey Street is a really fun/cool area.

There's also some good restaurants and food trucks on South Congress away from downtown. A good burger place: Hopdoddy is there too. Lines can get long there, but the food is worth it!
