Pat is just too good to be true.

Another Tebow, Horford, Wuerrful......a guy we should be so proud to call a Gator.

What I thought was most important is the parallel with Patric and CWalker. Both were being told how great they were and were OAD's. Then Patric finally saw the light and started listening to BD and put his nose to the grind stone.

This should have a strong influence on CWalker and he stays as recently predicted.

From where do these expectations that Chris Walker is staying arise?

In general? That he has likely not demonstrated enough to get the shot we initially thought he would, and that many agree he could legitimately benefit from another year.

In this context? As a comparison to Young, who was similarly courted his freshman year and instead stuck around and became a better player. That he's been doing some "mentoring" of Walker also lends some credence to the idea.

    Did you read the article?

Yes, I read the article. Of course he's not NBA-ready. Of course he would benefit from another year with UF's coaches, from the collegiate experience, from mentoring. How much does that have to do with the thought process of a kid from a poor family who's grown up on the AAU circuit with people prodding him to get to the League as quickly as possible? Do you remember Kwame Brown ("I'm absolutely coming to Florida")? Donnell Harvey ("I'm coming back, there's more work to do")?

When the glamour of this season ends and classes are over, and Pat Young and the seniors have graduated, this kid is going back to poverty. If someone assures him he'll get drafted somewhere and well paid while an NBA franchise teaches him how to play better, I won't be the least surprised if he rolls the dice.

First time I clicked it wasn't there. Or I'm just crazy, could be either one.
But thanks for bringing the article to our attention. I did google it lol. It was outstanding.

It's as much supposition as is yours re: "poor family grown up on the AAU circuit." Nobody's declaring it a done deal.

Agreed. When I read words like "as expected" and "as predicted" earlier in the thread, it made me think his return was more factual. Like everyone else, I hope he sticks it out in school.

My biggest concern about Walker is that Pat has actually gone down in draft projections when he didn't leave after his freshman year. That will be drummed into Walker by the agents etc. I hope he sees the advantage of staying, if there is one.

One of the reasons I think Walker stays is I believe the coaches think he stays. If our coaches thought he was gone, we'd probably be more aggressively recruiting big guys.

Good article. If Patric Young doesn't get a shot at broadcasting after his playing days are over, coaching seems like a natural fit.

His mom comes off as a really impressive person also in that article. No wonder Patric is so well adjusted.
