Yep the democrats didn't stop Pubs from screwing up Detroit did they? Nor have they stopped those damn pubs from screwing up Philladelphia's finances. And I'm sure they are not stopping pubs from screwing up public pension plans, social security and medicare solvency issues. As a matter of fact, at this second Obama and his conscientious team of demo financiers are implementing the suggestions of his own bipartisan committee- Simpson-Bowles.

After "your team" practices their brand of liberalism, union pandering and irresponsible policy, the American people will hire a Conservative to clean up the mess. As usual.

And the Barney Frank issue has never been debunked. He likely got out of the public eye a step ahead of the feds. Of course once Holder was appointed AG, Barney got "an out of jail free card." So he and his "partner" are flittering and twittering around the New England while little old ladies and young couples scammed on the mortgage mess are rebuilding their lives.

Clinton's administration is not the only one to blame but he did push for lower down payments and no doc loans.

No, it was not the Clinton administration or Bush administration alone. It was all of the above pushed by the "do gooders" on the seeking "equal opportunity" for all, regardless of whether it made financial sense.

What we have learned is that time tested lending principles of down payments, verification of income, verification of employment all result in better loans and are best for both lender and borrower.

Didn't Obama just last week make a speech pushing for HOME OWNERSHIP????

as a matter of fact......YES he most certainly did. And to make it even better he is pushing banks to open up sub-prime lending again.

Yes, and the unscrupulous lenders played no role. Just do gooders on the wrong track.

Certainly there were unscrupulous lenders. We had a hispanic guy we nicknamed "shaky" Rodriguez rent office space next to ours for a 15 person team. They were selling "sub prime" mortgages to people with dinged credit. We could have predicted what that bunch of mortgages would be worth...not the paper they were printed on. And someone was buying that crap and someone else was securitizing that crap. You think Shaky and his bunch were all pubs? You think those buying were all pubs? You think those securitizing were all pubs?

No, but pubs never acknowledge the fraud except on the borrower side.

Fred, what are you talking about? Lord, I've seen this subject beaten up all over TH. They were crooks. And some borrowers were crooks. And some were naive. Fault spreads out all over the place.

If Obama were mayor of those places, you might have a point.

And SF is a beautiful community--not sure why you are lumping it in.

i recommend that we ask our children and grandchildren how happy they are to be handed a $17 trillion (and rising every minute) debt. Is no one concerned about what Obama's out of control spending is doing to their futures.

The issue is what damage the Obama presidency is doing. It is not what excuse can be offered to divert one from reality.
