    http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2013/06/13/conyers-u-s-on-verge-of-becoming-a-surveillance-state/

    From the article:

"We have a feeling, at least some of us, that it’s not necessary, nor does it serve a legitimate legal protective service,” Conyers said, adding that he believes the surveillance is too “far-reaching.”

“My considered judgement is that the Federal Bureau of Investigations’ actions are inconsistent with the requirements of the Patriot Act and violate the fundamental privacy of law-abiding citizens,” he said.

With the way this country is heading, the govt is just preparing to quell the riots, just like Europe.

They could run us over with tanks like they did in China, but it's cheaper just to shoot us and call us terrorists. Can't happen here. Right?

I can't disagree with your sentiments on this one.

Becoming a surveillance state?.. I'd say we are at the police state level.

Becoming? We became one when the Patriot Act was passed if not before.

All the cons whining here about their privacy would also be the first ones to attack Obama if a tragedy occurred from NOT doing it, so it's hypocritical.

So what is your rationalization for Obama hitting the gas instead of the brakes, shab? Does that question form in your mind, or is all BUSH in there?

I live in the Maldives, a Muslim country by govt. Law. While here I have been, sometimes more than I should, an active supporter of the opposition Democratic Party and do voice my opinions openly. I am 100 percent against terrorists, sharia law and extremism of which it concerns me to the point of checking out news sources regularly. I even debated a Isis supporter on twiitter..that went very well. But should I also fear my own govt too?

Now my concern is my own govt. Are they watching my internet? Listening to phone calls? Would like to think no but I'm not naive. Keep in mind my focus is completely on Democracy in the Maldives but also aware that as an American I am a sitting duck. I need to know the latest news as the Maldives has had 3 Isis supporters killed fighting in Syria.

US Soldiers will not be running over anyone in the US streets with tanks or anything else.

obama will not turn the US military against US citizens. Not happening. Those are illegal orders and will not be followed.

Besides, all our troops and tanks are tied up running over people in other countries who posed no threat to us absent our presence and meddling in their countries.

Do the Kent State shootings ring a bell? I don't believe it was Nixon who gave the order to shoot.

I don't remember any tanks running over people at Kent State.

That was the Governor and they were National Guard Soldiers who were mobilized.

The National guard is a military force and, indeed, they did turn against US Citizens.

Wrong. There were over 1,000 Guardsman there that fatal day. 28 fired their weapons after being surrounded on a field. 4 people died.

    28 does not equal "they".

So what you are saying is that the Guardsman were justified in what they did?

No, but let's please not rewrite history. Kent State was a horrible culmination of civil unrest that has been festering for years. Think Ferguson and NYC, and Occupy Wall street, x 1000 constantly 24/7 for four long years. The country was fried. Nerves were frayed. Living in NYC, I remember those days quite well. People think today is bad? Nah, not even close. They are just too damn young to remember.

Please don't rewrite history? Where did that come from?
