So we'll dump our self-policing institution and implement ... basically the same thing? Or no enforcement institution at all? Bama can have 900 scholarships!

    Nothing new here.

It's a bogus issue invented by Saban so he doesn't have to adapt and out coach this style of offense. Hopefully it will be treated as such when they actually vote on it.

Why are they putting their hands into this cookie jar? The beauty of football is the invention of new strategy and technique which creates an evolution of the game every few years. Every generation has seen some radical change in gameplay that has caused the coaches to adapt. This is no different.

The only difference is that Saban has the pull to create a gripe which is actually given 2 seconds of thought because of his success at Alabama.

If any other coach had backed it, the NCAA wouldn't have cared.

Or we could create a better organization that actually makes sense and is effective.

As if anyone here actually knows how to run an organization like that? I know I see an irrelevant organization that is wildly inconsistent in its rulings and is ridiculously idiotic with its proposed rules changes. Im not going to play along with your shtick today as I'm moving, maybe another day.

OBOB I know this is what you love to do, argue with others about random stupid shit just to argue. Everyone knows it, I simply am not playing along. Everyone complains about the NCAA and can't stand it, not just me, deal with it.

What bothers me about the NCAA is their inconsistency with punishment. How does Miami not get the book thrown at them???? I know every circumstance is different however their are general degrees of violations. I believe that's a lot of the reason of the animosity for them.

That everyone does it is absolutely meaningless - by design any self-policing organization will be vilified. Too stern punishment and they're picking on you / against you. Too weak and all of your rivals say it's a toothless organization.

What I'm interested in is specifics - what's wrong and how you'd fix it. Otherwise it's just more of the same.

Yeah, OBOB likes to play devil's advocate, and no question the NCAA has fumbled some of its recent actions, but the basic truth is that no one is going to like whatever organization is tasked with enforcing the rules.

The whole idea of amateur athletics is getting tested and stretched and challenged, the NCAA has a thankless task trying to keep the field as level as it can in 2014.

The bottom lines that when the NCAA finally fails and becomes irrelevant, the sport we all love and follow, the sole reason for this board, is basically done. Its over.
