It's a big island. Most of the good stuff is on the other end of the island anyway

I watched Arenal in Costa Rica erupt back in 95 while on my honeymoon. Some loud booms at night but mostly slow flowing lava visible from Tabacon hot springs. Had an inch or so of ash on the truck the following morning.
Calbuco eruption in Chili a few years ago happened the morning I was due to fly down to Patagonia with my dad and son. We had to postpone the trip for a year!
As a geologist, I eat this stuff up and would love to see the Hawaii flows up close.

When I went there each year to meet up with our videographer, we'd always go to the other islands, Oahu, Maui, Kawa'i, Molokai, etc. BEAUTIFUL places to lay down some video!

Definitely. Pyroclastic bombs the size of a bus.
The USGS website has some good info.

I bet that's wonderful when it comes crashing into your living room. Maybe the live oaks aren't so bad after all.

Yeah, would much rather have the oak tree than lava bombs.
