Why? Just curious. He always seemed like a good dude. His players seemed to like him as well.

UF simply has to pay Mike White the going rate for a coach at a top 10 program. We already invested in the basketball facility last year

Unless Ole Miss suddenly finds a wealthy benefactor like Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk, UF has nothing to worry about. Instead, Ole Miss's wealthy benefactors are more like Crazy Larry of Crazy Larry's Used Mattress Emporium.

How could anyone feel unappreciated as a Gator Coach following Gator Legend Billy Donovan?

Nichols leaving could be a good thing if White would replace him with someone that is known for recruiting and developing bigs. This would fill a HUGE area of need.

I could see someone like Nichols. So much will depend on what other jobs open up and how far down the pecking order Ole Miss falls. UGA is more than likely going to fire Fox, so even within the SEC, they will be the 2nd best job available.

You are presuming it is a "huge need" bc --- due to injury --- we have yet to see Nichols have opportunity to develop the young players he helped recruit.
It is a feather in the cap whenever an assistant lands a head coaching role, but such guys are only being considered bc they are very good.
I suspect this is true of Darris.

I was thinking the same thing. I think Kennedy is a hell of a coach and possibly work with the bigs.

Presuming he wants one.... AK will land an HC job somewhere. And probably somewhere better than ole miss.

I assume this is related to the alleged incident of him punching out a cab driver. The other eye-brow raiser in his career was Marshall Henderson, who some think got a few more chances than deserved.

On the Darris Nichols note... losing him would be a hit for our staff, no question. He is such a great, relatable recruiter to the modern athlete.

One thing I find interesting, in the offseason CBS Sports does a "candid coaches" series where they anonymously poll division 1 coaches on a wide range of topics. one of the questions they asked was "what assistant will be the next to take a head coaching job?" and one of the assistants who got named multiple times was Nichols. People recognize his talent.
