So is Roper's offense going to use a true TE or was the Duke TE position more of a hybrid?

Would be nice to add a weapon like this guy to the offense. Experienced guys who create mismatches is certain a position of need.

From what I saw the TE lined up traditionally.

Would be a good addition, no doubt.

It also makes me frustrated about Colin Thompson... this kid has (had?) so much potential. How could the No.1 TE commit in the nation not be ready to make an impact in Year 3?

I went to the Sun to read the TE report, and was compelled to answer this question before getting my football news:

What a joke. I encourage all to immediately click off Sun articles upon encountering this garbage marketing.

I am not crazy about UF spending time on one-and-done football players, but we are in desperate times.

I don't quite follow your thinking.
This is not a "one and done".
He has experience, he ads depth, he gives the offense another weapon.
It doesn't cost one scholly off of our class.

Lol, it's either you have to do something like that, or you have to pay a subscription to read the newspaper online. Never understood why people expect to get everything for free. Gainesville Sun has to make a living somehow, and like all newspapers, it's suffering for money.

Because this is America and some genius didn't put much thought into the saying "land of the free". Might as well have called us Iceland 2.0 and kept the people who dont like cold weather and believed it away. :)

I dont think there's enough room on the bandwagon for that whole clique. Maybe the excess can follow behind the wagon in a single file line like we did in kindergarten. :)

This would be a big time get, if it happens.

A NFL caliber player at a position of need that can play right away? Talk about something falling into your lap.

That would be Francis Scott Key.

Injuries. I believe it was a nagging foot injury that kept him out all season. Same with Kent Taylor (who was the #2 TE in HS behind Thompson). As evident by Jordan Reed's production, Muschamp loves to use a traditional tight end (Urban had Hernandez in some unconventional formations, e.g. lined up in the backfield or split outside like a WR - this probably scared away a lot of top HS tight ends during recruiting.) By not having Thompson, Taylor, and Reed last season, we were forced to move Tevin Westbrook from DE to TE, primarily to block.

Muschamp has said our best formation is 3 receivers and 2 backs, but I think that's more based on current personnel. It will be interesting to see how this would change things.

I always just click the first option my mouse lands on or if you have to type some hit a few keys, it's really not that hard. If they're making money off of that then maybe I need to rethink my profession.

Just don't fall for the answer 7 questions and unlock the articles for a week thing, that doesn't work.

Maybe it did "fall into our lap…" but that ignores the success the coaches have had in attracting transfers at positions of need where upperclass experience and strength is key.

Here are the transfers/JUCOs CWM and staff have attracted:

Darious Cummings, he'll be a starter for 1 and 1/2 of his 2 years here barring injury
Tyler Moore, he'll be a starter for at least 2 of his 3 years here…
Max Garcia, he'll be a starter for 2 of his 2 years here….
Trenton Brown, he looks to start for 2 of his 3 years here…
Damien Jacobs, solid contributor for 2 years….

UF has not traditionally gone after JUCOS and transfers, but this staff knew early on due to some poor recruiting and bad luck at OL and DT on both sides of the Meyer/Muschamp transition that it needed quick help on the line.

Now with with UF's signees at TE having flamed out now over the last 4 years ( Mike McFarland, AC Leonard, Kent Taylor, Colin Thompson) they may have brought in someone who can contribute right away at another position where first and second year players rarely make much of an impact. Goolsby looks like a good get, but he is probably not strong enough right now to handle the blocking aspects of the position.

Last time I remember taking a one year guy, it was a CB, he started every game and we won a national championship.

WM is taking a lesson from Billy D. This would be bigger than signing a 5* TE out of HS. This is a huge position of need and McGee would give Goolsby an opportunity to learn from a proven entity. Hope we get this talented TE and hope he is a team player. Roper and Driskel have to be salivating.

Same here. Also if they leave a blank for an open answer, I light them up with some colorful toilet bowl language. :)
