My proposal would be to limit length of service in the House, Senate, and the President to 12 years. They can serve 12 years in each if they can get elected.

Change the election cycle in the House to 4 year terms instead of 2 years and have half of them up for election every two years. Limit of 3 terms

Keep the Senate the same and limit to 2 terms.

Let the President serve 3 terms if he can get elected three times.

not unreasonable, but still need executive/congressional entitlement reform, pensions, health care, campaign money spending rules. i don't like the president at 12 but if it meant the other chuckleheads couldn't stay 30 or 40 or 50 years i'd take that

Maybe I misunderstood your post I responded to. Are you for them continuing in the same fashion they have been? As in setting their own salaries, having a separate retirement?

I'm down with all of it. A pox on the whole political class.

agree with some , disagree with others.

on the surface, they all look good.

however, consider the impact of such 'rules' on the following
---what type of people would want to become senators, congressmen if the benefits are taken out? In other words, who could afford to become senators/congressmen? What would be their motivation for becoming senators/congressmen?
hate to say it, but we'd likely have the same problems but even worse as the positions of senators/congressmen would attract those looking for what the power of public office could bring their way after leaving politics.
---experience level--if there is a strict one term limit you are talking about leadership not developing. My solution is two term limit. But that a person can return to office following two terms if the person sits out a term. This would allow leadership, etc to be developed while at same time help prevent politicians from being so entrenched in their job that they are hard to remove.

Agreed. Not surprised that half the thread went into debunking the authorship rather than discussing the merits of the proposal.

    I agree with the proposals
