Saw that. Canadians are also more conservative than are Americans.

How so? Canadians pay more in taxes than the US. They're far less religious. They approved same-sex marriage in 2005. Have national health care. Doesn't require voter ID. has tougher gun laws.

Have you ever been to Canada? It is a much more homogenous population than the US. They do not have the same issues. It is lilly white. Their minorities tend to be Asian in western Canada.

the three reasons the story gave as to why Canada is doing better are all things that conservatives fight in the US.

yes. it's about unmarried birth rate and single parent families. I don't think that's a liberal/conservative thing. I'm one of the liberal people here, and my family is right out of Norman Rockwell.
And even if it were, it doesn't overshadow every other issue.

So conservatives in the US fight "self-reliance, individual freedom and personal ambition."

Hmmm. didn't realize that. Thought those along with smaller, less intrusive Government were GOP themes? Did we read the same article?

The conservative thinktank The Heritage Foundation consistently ranks Canada as economically freer than the US. And the Simon Fraser Institute ranks Alberta as the freest of any North American state or province. Also, Canada's head-of-state is a Sunday School teacher, is a gun owner, and is unabashedly pro-life.

    "Canadians trust their government more"

And this part of the article is total bull$hit. We were in Quebec City in June and they've been threatening to secede forever. And the news was filled with corruption in politics. Same stuff as US.

Look at the three differences the author pointed out:

Funding of early education - You really figure it's conservatives who are pushing for more of it?

Fewer national level support programs in America - Again, conservatives are pushing for more? Or fighting what we already have?

Canadians trust the govt more than the U.S., including accepting a national health care program that's far more aggressive than Obamacare - What's the conservative stance on that in the U.S.?

So now when you actually realize the reasons the article gives for the American dream being stronger in Canada, you decide the article is BS?

And that's supposed to be more meaningful about Canada than the fact that it's far less religious and has much tougher gun laws than the U.S.?

Do you really want to go down this road? Next he'll be throwing out Toronto's crazy, crack-using right-wing mayor as proof of how Canada is a conservative paradise.

Let me take them point by point:

We have spent billions on head start for poor kids. I'm sure these programs are worthwhile...and then we unfortunately have to send the kids home to their parent.

Fewer national support programs in America? Total bullshit. We've got programs about programs and spend far more on welfare, public housing, food assistance, Medicaid for poor than Canada can ever dream up.

Trusting government more- Also total bullshit. Canadians trust their government about as much as the French, Italians, Greeks or Spanish, trust theirs. Which is about the same as most of us trust ours.

I posted the article for discussion and to point out the American Dream still lives. The accurate part of the article was what I covered.

Do you believe everything about most articles you read? I don't much of the time because it is based on that person's point of view.
