There's so many players out there who are gay and just have not had the courage to come out yet. I applaud this individual for having the balls and strength to come out to everyo0ne and not be afraid of judgement or repercussions.

Right before the draft as well. That took some guts.

Good for him. The straight players are just going to have to deal with it.

I'm sure it happens time and time again in "The League," but sexual preference is I'm sure yet another determining factor what a franchise is looking to draft an individual. Right or wrong?

This stuff is so obnoxious. It is not his fault that I just got 4 sportscenter notifications on my phone about him, and that this is all that is going to be on ESPN and its shows tommorow. Im not a big fan of the whole gay thing, mainly because this is what happens when gay things get on the news, a bombardment of news about something that isn't important. Don't blame the guy at all, he is who is he, but wow, the media really turns me off in these scenarios.

NFL Player: "Hey Coach, what does that sign 'HOTYS' above the door to the showers mean?"
Head Coach: "Hold on to your soap."

Congrats to the young man, that takes guts. His play on the field speaks for itself and that is what should matter in the end. It is awesome his Missouri locker room knew for 6 months and we are just learning of it from his mouth. That says something about those kids.

Seriously....give me the best damn player out there gay or straight! I'm so tired of hearing of all these athletes afraid to be themselves , and play the game they love due to their sexual orientation. Gay or straight, who cares as long as they're performing!?!?!?!

I know!!! Cuse just went to 23-0 and this is what we hear about?! Alerts about sports scores are so much more important than a huge moment for gay acceptance!

If people were more accepting of this, it wouldn't be news. I hear ya though.

Who cares? I don't care about anyone's preferences.
But good for him, I guess.

They always need something. Marcus Smart apparently killed a fan yesterday, and today they're going to take this story to the hilt, even if it is at the expense of Sam. They will exploit Sam and his partner unfortunately.

I understand why Sam came out. NFL draft scouts would out him eventually or leak buzzwords like 'character concerns' or 'personal problems' even if they are BS. At least he can control part of the conversation by releasing this now.

Agreed, who cares? Gimme the best player possible for the pros. Gay, Straight, Trans Gender, etc...who cares? The organization, owner, and teammates will all deal with it if they produce on the turf or court...

This is such a stupid argument anymore these days...

Maybe that was his intention... to get a little publicity, to get his name out there and people talking about him. Smart move, if that's the case. This could potentially raise his draft stock. Imagine all of the positive press a team will get when they draft him.

Either way, good for him. Hopefully this will open the door for a lot of other football players to muster the courage to come out. It will be a good day when being a gay athlete isn't even newsworthy anymore but just a normal thing.

Spoke to a few NFL scouts abt Michael Sam: They see him as a 5th/6th RDer. "A 4-3 DE. Really gets off the line. Strong. Super high-motor."

I am figuring that you were being sarcastic. I think gay acceptance is a bit overblown. Its legal in states, the president supports it. I don't see how this is a big moments for gays. Gays can do as they want, its pretty obnoxious to hear about it on a sports channel. if I want political breaking news I'l turn it on FOX or CNN. Don't need ESPN telling me how the gays are doing. I like to keep sports and politics separate.

Michael Sam should go in the first 4 rounds. He's really good. Weird to see scouts projecting him at 5th/6th
