Would love to know who in their athletic department decided this was a good idea...

Rightly being blasted for it on their facebook page.

As college football fans, I am sure that we can appreciate their passion here, but I can't believe they didn't see some backlash coming.

Yup, completely understand why they're doing it, but I don't know how it didn't occur to someone in the group responsible for this that, "You know, at best we're going to come across as tone-deaf, maybe we should consider another way to do this."

There is ONE thing in the myopic state of Alabama and that is college football.

there is only one hat that truly should be the one that represents 9/11

the hat that belongs to this fallen fireman on 9/11
    [IMG]

that fireman is none other than NYFD Chaplain Father Mychal Judge who went into WTC to rescue people and to deliver the last rights to others. He was under no orders to go into the building---other than the order he received from his conscience to help others.
Conscience derived from Latin meaning 'with knowing', in a spiritual sense our conscience is our connection with God

My birthday is the same as George Washington's yet that long gone publicity ho still insists on sucking up all the good karma on that day. How many fantasy football championships did he win in an eight year stretch? Me: four. Just remember that on February 22nd (Emmitto Day.)

Good Lord. Are living people born on September 11th supposed to cancel their birthday celebrations, too? Sheesh. If you're due date is September 11th, get induced the day before so your kid doesn't have to spend the rest of his life feeling guilty for even having a birthday.

Bear Bryant is Alabama football. Always will be. I don't see the harm in recognizing his 100th birthday because it happens to fall on the same day of the year as something bad. We never did this to people born on December 7th or November 22nd or April 14th.

I tell you if the Yankees came back down to burn the campus to the ground they would allow it, as long as they don't touch the stadium or statues/

If there wasn't such a widely held perception that the otherwise fine people of Alabama take football too seriously then I doubt we would think twice about this. There is nothing wrong with people going about their lives and treating 9/11 as any other day but having said that Alabama's athletic dept. should be more aware of how they're perceived by the rest of us and at least acknowledged they know what today's date is better known for.

The front page of the b'ham fishwrapper had a large picture of that sot drunk, chain smoking cheater on 9/11... and no visible mention of any firefighters or rescue responders.

gump fans are pathological underdogs. They have a primal need, a blood lust, to be Number One and to dominate others. If they excelled in spelling or tiddly-winks, and won championships in those areas, they would be obsessed with spelling bees.

Because football is the one single area in which they can extract revenge on all other people in America for their near-50th place ranking in most measures of quality of life, they obsess over bear and satan.

I have heard the term "Alabama fatigue" appearing more and more in the media lately. People all over the country are getting tired of the arrogance and stupidity.
