The ACC is moving back their tournament dates a day so their Championship final can be played in primetime on Saturday night. They are moving into the spot once held by the old Big East on ESPN. The new Big East is still on Saturday night, but on Fox Sports 1. Good move. More and more of the big conference tournaments are now ending on Saturday prior to selection Sunday. I wouldn't mind the SEC doing the same thing.

I agree. ACC got the prime spot, but we could easily be a 4:00 prelude to that. Otherwise, at least move the Sunday game to noon.

With the advent of the new mega-conferences primarily driven by football $'s we will now have most conference basketball tournaments as silly as the Big East conference tournaments used to be. The SEC tournament is now 5 rounds just like the old Big East tournament. Yuck.

For basketball eight teams in a conference is optimal. It is small enough for a home-and-home schedule and the end of the season tournament is just three games and no byes. It also allows enough latitude in the OOC scheduling to have a good mix of great games and cupcakes to get national "face time" as well as the ability to do scheduling favors and also effectively hold scrimmages that pay the bills. Perhaps the ideal would be to have a 16 team conference for football and then split the conference for basketball into two distinct entities that have their own regular season and conference tournaments. And each new basketball conference has an automatic NCAA bid for the tournament winner, of course.

Please don't go whining about never playing some teams from the "other conference" ever again. You could always schedule OOC games with teams from the "other conference" to maintain some traditional rivalries. The fans will want it so it makes economic sense to do it. In fact it will probably make more money that way as now it is an event.

The SEC REALLY needs to move the tournament up a day. If you weren't convinced by the Gators mail-it-in performance against Albany, nothing will convince you.

I think it's also a good move in terms of possible NCAA tourney seeds. I think the committee ignores the Sunday game results unless it bumps another team off the bubble.

The SEC network should have the finals on Saturday night. You could then get home in time for the brackets on Sunday early evening.
