A Revelation!

    Did gymnastics evolve from yoga ? At least in part ? I was thumbing through a book, on Ashtanga Yoga, and saw pictures of poses that resembled (by other names, of course), planche progressions, L-sits, handstands, elbow levers, plyometric pushups ... and even stuff that resembled breakdancing moves.

    In any case, it has occurred to me that I might 'freshen up' my workouts by arranging some of the movements I already do in a sort of yoga-like flow. That way I wouldn't have to compartmentalize my workouts ... and can get a little conditioning besides.

    now THAT is interesting, no kiddin. I did yoga real regularly for about four years and I found a totally new appreciation. Even though its not an aggressive motion activity per se, it still worked my butt (and belly!) off pretty quickly. I was always sweating like a race-horse in the classes or after workouts. I was really surprized the effort. it wouldn't suprize me to know it is close to gymnastics.

    Well, at least the more vigorous forms of yoga commonly referred to as 'power yoga.'

    Yoga tends toward slow twitch fibers and flexibility. Gymnastics does seem related on some events. For example, the balance beam. On the other hand, not on the vault or floor.
