So you believe that the Earth is cooling?

Do you believe that the US is causing to Arctic to become ice free in the summer?
Reread carefully and get back to me with a cogent thought. K?

I'd be more than happy to talk with you about my views of the Arctic, but I'm getting the feeling that you are more interested in an exchange of insults, which is an interest that I don't share.

I'll insult him Rade. You do the reasonable part.

This is one freaking year, guys.... whether it's hotter then normal or colder than normal, it doesn't mean much of anything by itself.

Compared to what? Last year? 15 years ago? 500 years ago? 1000 years ago?

    Time frame matters

Except for when the ice is less than normal. Like last year. Then the alarmists all over it.

You are the one that needs to answer this. Not me. I am not the one that is aligned to the view that man is causing catastrophic climate change.

But you are. So defect all you want. But answer your own question. You might find it cathartic.

You'd have to ask wargun, but it appears from his post that he believes that the Earth will show a somewhat obvious cooling pattern over the next few decades.

If I recall this prediction correctly, it was one group who subsequently identified an error in their model that led to a huge change in the predicted outcome (pushing the ice-free date back a couple decades, I think?). I am not sure that I have the right prediction lined up to the story, but I imagine this was the one. I am sure that a lot of people took their claims seriously, but as I recall their prediction was an outlier at the time.

    Perhaps.

Here are the two scientists that attested to the prediction.

They sound quite confident of their predictions, do they not?

I'll give you a second chance since you couldn't perform on the first:

    1 Where's the link?
2 Where's the part where "scientists" - I assume you mean more than one and presumably some sort of consensus - "insisted" that arctic ice would be gone by 2013?

You made those claims in post #48 above, in case you've forgotten already.

Thanks for posting his name, which allowed me to try to vet my story. But to first answer your question, yes, these guys sound extremely confident.

Looks like I don't have the story for him exactly right. At least according to this link from 2011, he did revise his model, but it only pushed back the ice free date a couple years to 2016. But the article does suggest that his prediction wasn't inline with most others:

I am familiar with the 2040-ish date as the more accepted prediction, but yeah Maslowski's original 2013 prediction is not looking good.

Like the increase in arctic ice in 2013, another mole hill being pumped up into a mountain.

Arctic Sea Ice Gone in Summer Within Five Years?
    Seth Borenstein in Washington
    Associated Press

    December 12, 2007

An already relentless melting of the Arctic greatly accelerated this summer—a sign that some scientists worry could mean global warming has passed an ominous tipping point.

One scientist even speculated that summer sea ice could be gone in five years.

Greenland's ice sheet melted nearly 19 billion tons more than the previous high mark, and the volume of Arctic sea ice at summer's end was half what it was just four years ago, according to new NASA satellite data obtained by the Associated Press (AP).

"The Arctic is screaming," said Mark Serreze, senior scientist at the government's snow and ice data center in Boulder, Colorado.
